My only issue with the 2020 MBA intel is that it stutters when it reaches 100 degrees which happens every 30 mins or or so and to think I only have like safari and a few youtube tabs open along with spotify.

I just bought an i3 and have heard a few people say this about the i3 vs i5. Do you know the reason ?
Honestly, not a clue. I know other people who have had no problems with the i5, so I'm pretty much of the opinion that I got a duff model. I bought it at launch, so perhaps later 2020 builds were fine?

I've got a reasonable price for it from Music Mapgie, and have ordered an M1 model as a replacement.

Ya i just picked up the M1 last night too lol. Couldn't resist. It's incredibly fast and cool. Will be returning my i3.

I recommend checking out Apple's trade in program. It may have changed, but I received $560 in trade-in value if I used my Apple Card on a 2019 base MacBook Air. I'm paying $36 a month for 12 months at 0% for a revolutionary upgrade. No brainer, check out Apple.

No offence but if I'd just bought an Intel Air I'd be trading in now.

The only thing stopping anyone from switching would be app compatibility and a requirement for Windows. Even then, the latter is already seeing some development on the M1 if you've seen the front page feed on here.

I'm every other way the M1 is better. I get most of you don't need more performance given your low workloads, but I'm sure there's not a single person who doesn't want the 50% better battery life and P3 screen. This thread feels a bit salty tbh 😂.

...and 2x the SSD r/w speeds, Apple really $crewed us early 2020 buyers.

Apple offering $670 for 512gb I5 MBA, if money was no object, I'd definitely trade in, but not gonna at this point.

What is your thinking on it?

probably the same.

I got a really good deal on my i5 / 512 earlier this year even knowing if an Apple silicon MBA would drop, I still wouldn't feel burned

Could do it. got a gift card too. but dont really wanna pay the premo for 512 again when I already have it. and wanna save the gift card to still pay for a lot of a future iPhone years down the road, or maybe something else iOS wise.

and wanna still 'enjoy' the deal for a paid off laptop I hunkered down for in the spring

M1 looks awesome though

Yeah, mine was refurb thru Apple. I really don't do any serious graphics work or anything, so would be fun to upgrade, but not necessary

I had a 2020 i7 16GB from Costco. I was fortunate for Costco has a 90 day return period on laptops and I returned it just in time for a 2020 11" iPP.

Honestly now I am tempted to get the M1, but I should not..... I think the biggest advantage of the M1 is battery life.

Let’s say in a year or so, my 2020 intel MBA breaks and I use AppleCare- will they replace with intel or M1?

I bought my Early 2020 i3 MBA 4 days before the announcement was due, do I regret it? No I do not, as I got an amazing deal as it was a refurb unit and cost me £800.

A very small part of me wants to return it for an M1 MBA, but its very fast and a great upgrade from my 2011 MBP; plus I have the benefit of being able to run Windows on it when I need it too.

Hopefully, Apple will continue to support Intel Macs until at least 2025 too given the usual support period these days is approx. 5 years.

I did the same thing since the i3 was on sale for $920 usd. On launch day after seeing a few reviews i couldn't resist going to buy an M1 air.

Besides the M1 killing the i3 in benchmarks as a test yesterday i plugged in the air to my tv via hmdi and put on a 4k youtube video. The i3 kept stuttering, was using 90% of the cpu and was stuck at around 95c. Did the same with my M1 and it played flawlessly and was using only 35% of the cpu. It was also cool to the touch.

Now it's a no brainer, the i3 has to be returned.

I'm actually now regretting it too!

I was using Ecamm at the weekend and streaming to FaceBook and the i3 struggled significantly, with lots of stuttering audio and a complete lockup. When I researched I saw that the i3 was 100% quicker on Geekbench 5 than my old 2011 MBP, but the reality is its far from the truth! My old 2011 easily ran things but I thought it was getting old and ran extremely hot.

If I could afford an M1 brand new I'd go for it, but I'm probably stuck with this.

Definitely shows why Apple made the switch when a modern processor from Intel hasn't really moved on significantly in 9 years of development!
