Apologies being dished out by Jon Moss and Howard Webb to Gary O Neil.

Michael Salisbury VAR referee could be in trouble again lol.

As has been pointed out before, Maguire does not need to leave United right now because he currently has the easy life at United, earning a massive wage for little work because he is not expected to feature in many of United's games. He only has one year left of his contract so why leave and join a club who is going to expect him to work hard for his money.

Even if a ref get's into a position to see a ball incident it is near on impossible for the ref to see EVERY ball incident which is why I feel VAR is an important tool in the ref's arsenal. Both the on field ref and the VAR ref need to be on the same page but that has not been happening a lot lately. It would have been very clear to the VAR ref that it was an obviously penalty to Wolves thus the VAR ref should have waited to see if the on field ref had spotted the incident and if not should have immediately indicated to the on field ref that there is an incident that he needs to see.

Personally I think there is some pride and professional etiquette going on between on field refs and VAR refs because as we know it is the on field ref's job to make sure they are in the right position and the right time to pick up on ball incidents because that is their job. The problem is the game moves so fast these days it can be very difficult for ref's to keep up. This is why many critics of the game say ref's need to trained to an exceptionally high level, not just only on physical fitness but all on on field awareness. So, when on field refs are not in the right position to see a ball incident and VAR gets involved it could be perceived as that of the on field ref not doing their job properly because VAR has to keep getting involved. Could it be that VAR ref's do not want to step on the toes of on field ref's because it would be showing them up as not being focused enough/good enough.

If a VAR ref has to keep on intervening during a game, how quickly are we likely to see sports headlines of 'ref's accused of being incompetent due the amount of VAR calls being put to them'.

It's hard to root for Spain in the WC final, given the recent controversies between their coach some of their players and, more importantly, the heavy-handed and arbitrary way the Spanish FA has dealt with it. It's no fault of the players but it leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

As for Maguire, he has every right to earn the money the club have already agreed to pay him in his contract, or, failing that, negotiate a payout. Maybe more England caps are not as high a priority for him as many fans assume.

My tip is that Australia will win the WWC, they have and will have a massive support with playing on home ground. Especially if Sam Kerr is fit to play at her best as well.
Spain was not that good, it was our team that maybe came up to maybe 50/60% of our capacity, and we had not the right luck on our side this match, quite the opposite. That’s how it is.

But I don’t care that much, not even a lot if our team win or loose. But sure I feel with them and get dragged into their hopes and losses - when following it 🙄☺️
But it doesn’t affect my life one bit. More when I played myself and had it closer. I didn’t play in the national team level myself though.

Hope they fix the bronze, it’s at least a medal to bring home.
Then they can focus on Olympic in Paris next year, bet that is an even bigger goal for them.

Of course he has the right. But you’d think he’d rather go somewhere and play football rather than watch it.

Actually, I suspect that he may have been stalling.

Oddly enough, I think that he could have been a good fit at West Ham.

Yes, he had to agree terms with United, but I would have thought that they would have been glad to sell him, - and thus, have more money to put towards other (more compelling) purchases rather than have him remain on their hands, an expensive player who is manifestly out of favour, has been stripped of the captain's armband, and who will not grace the football pitch all that often for United if he does remain with them.

My sense is that Maguire is a worker; yes, he could well have an easy life, but he strikes me as the sort of person who would prefer to play rather than remain on the bench.

To keep his place on the England team.

In order to keep his place on the England team, he will be expected to play first team football.

I would have thought that this would have motivated him to complete the West Ham transfer.

I agree he could have done a good job for us as well. But there you go. I’m sure he’ll enjoy watching from the stands at old Trafford thinking about how he’ll spend all his money.

Not quite advantage, but I would argue that the odds have been tilted slightly less in Manchester City's favour.

Actually, I like KDB; he is an excellent player but has been unfortunate with injuried in recent years.
I rate him as the best player in the PL. Hopefully this latest blow is the last set back he has.

Chelsea have activated the release clause for Olise at Palace for £35m

Now at £970m spent in 15 months

You could interpret this as a bad/lazy attitude, in which case West Ham probably don't want him anyway.

On the other hand, playing devils' advocate, he could be thinking along the following lines: I have a lucrative contract at a big club I'd prefer to stay at. I will ask for a big payout on this West Ham deal and if Man Utd balk, I stay put. I will train and possibly fight my way back into a starting position due to injuries or starting players losing form. Next season there will still be Premier League clubs willing to sign me. And even if I just ride the pine most of the season I still make a lot of money and Gareth Southgate might call me up anyway.

KDB out for four months. I’d say advantage Arsenal in the title race!

Man City don't need KDB to win the league. It probably (mercifully) puts a dent in their hopes of another treble though. Man City have something like a 90% chance of winning the league...they'd need to sustain two or three more season-ending injuries to their best remaining players to alter that.

well Timber's injury looks bad too so it may even out
Yes, I had been afraid of that, it didn't look good at the time; usually, when a player goes down in agony when nobody is near him it doesn't bode at all well.

If, as it seems, that this is an ACL injury, I would expect that he shall be out for months.

Although losing KDB AND Gundogan is a big blow for City. Kovacic can pass and keep the ball, but he doesn't score or create as many chances as the former two.

KDB almost singlehandedly dismantled Burnley before he limped off. Also created the goal in the Community Shield. Consistently tries to find Haaland. And was the difference in the 6 pointer against Arsenal last season

So its a significant blow to City.

But they should still have enough in Foden, Silva, Grealish, Alvarez, Rodri, and Kovacic to win most games.

Meanwhile, Lavia to Chelsea done for £58m

To be honest there has been a question mark over the transfer for a while for me. Just wasn’t making a lot of sense the way it was all agreed (in the press anyway) but nothing was progressing.

Please NO. Im not a Liverpool fan but I like watching him play in PL.
I hope this is not true.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Lavia to Chelsea is set to be announced as official this week - £58m total (£53m+£5m add-ons).
Man City to receive 20% of profits as sell-on clause invoked.
Also Tim Krul to have a medical at Norwich this week.
Man U rumoured to be in talks with the whole planet.

C. Ronaldo doing his best Ibrahimovic impression, saying that the only reason that players are going to Saudi Pro League is to be with him - he's stated that Serie A was nothing before him and the same with La Liga.
Interesting to see if he's been deliberately misquoted or if he really is as egotistical and unlikeable as he seems.
