Harry Kane is 30 and for a striker that is old in most peoples book. Yes there have been many a striker that have gone on to achieve things when past their prime striker days but for the most part a striker hitting 30 is not going to be getting many opportunities at goal, especially when coming up against younger, much stronger and much fitter defenders.

Remember though it is not all about scoring goals. Kane was the Bundesliga highest goal scorer and yet the club finished 3rd in the league. The exact same thing kept happening to him whilst at Spurs, a number of times he was the premier league highest goal scorer and yet Spurs would finish 4th or 5th in the league.
Always the bridesmaid never the bride! I am a Spurs supporter but even being impartial now he is not at the club I really think he deserved medals and winning. He has been a joy to watch over the years.

Kane should have followed in Bale's footsteps and gone to Real Madrid if he wanted guarantee's of winning trophies. I know most people would have said going to Bayern Munich was going to guarantee at least the league title because they had won the last 11 in a row so a 12th title was a given. Well as we saw it did not work out like that. What is even more painful for Bayern Munich is that they ended up with the leagues highest goal scorer and yet they finished the league in 3rd.

Is it time for a new thread for the new season. I get the feeling no one really cares about the olympics

and Lord Blackadder may have checked out of football along with Klopp.

New EPL season is what 2 weeks away?

I think we tend to do it when the Charity Shield is on, but I’m easy when.
If nobody else wishes to do the honours first, I'll happily start a thread for the rapidly approaching new season this coming week-end.

It looks like Man United are starting off from where they left off which is injuries because a number of sports articles I've read have been reporting that a number of United players have already picked up injuries during pre-season.

Also I think West Ham must be becoming the new Man United when it comes to transfer news because nearly every media outlet I look at that is discussing transfers, West Ham is the team that is always getting mentioned. West Ham are after Man United players, West Ham are after Everton players, West Ham are after Arsenal players, West Ham are after Chelsea players and it goes on and on and on. That sort of thing only used to happen to United. Now it seems West Ham has taken over the mantle :)

I think the haters of Man United are all laughing their heads off because they spend £52 on one of their new signings, the so called wonder kid defender Leny Yoro and who is now out for 3 months injured. Rasmus Hojlund is also out injured for 6 weeks.

No doubt the haters are going 'loving it'.

Funny I’ve not read us linked to any Everton, Chelsea or Arsenal players.

I hear we are close to signing
Niclas Fullkrug (Dortmund)
Crysencio Summerville (Leeds)
Alexander Sorloth (Villarreal)
Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Man U)

We were linked with but I don’t believe a deal can be agreed on for Jhon Duran from Villa.

West Ham table £15 for Reiss Nelson West Ham bid £15 for Arsenal's Reiss Nelson
West Ham linked to Jota West Ham linked to Jota
West Ham linked to Coventry’s Callum O’Hare and Hull’s Jacob Greaves Linked to 2 players
West Ham linked to Newcastle's Callum Wilson Linked to Newcastle's Callum Wilson

These are just some of the many articles I found about players West Ham are said to be interested in or linked to. Nothing may come of any of them but as I said in my post, West Ham is being linked to many many players which is something the media used to do with Man United

My post should not be taken too literally. I used Everton and Chelsea as an example of how the media make up articles about a club going after many many players even when there is no evidence of the club doing so.

Well we have a new manager so it’s understandable that he will want to bring in his own players.
But I think 75% of all transfer stories have no basis of fact to them whatsoever.

Well at least we know why Lopetegui took the job. He was clearly promised a chunk of money.

Well, I like football at the Olympics 😄
I think it's cool as it's a different arena and mixed with a lot of other sports.
But I am neither much invested in club-football like most of you are.

I follow our Womens national team, and somewhat the male team when it's worth something 😉
Sometimes some women's clubs where there's some Swedish players, so Champion League at times.
But that's it.

I actually have enjoyed watching it in the olympics.

My problem with the big sports in the olympics is adding pro players.

At least in football they haven't gone crazy with that like they have in hockey and basketball.

Ok, I hear you - basket isn't very popular here, so my knowledge is nada when it comes to that, and hockey I haven't followed since I can't recall. But Sweden have had some goid players....
I haven't got any subscrption for the Olympics, so I haven't watched it, except for the very good summary our national TV gives us every day. 😁
Probably wouldn't got a subscription even IF our womens and/or male team had qualified in Football anyway.
I don't watch a lot of sport today - it takes less time to be updated of it then watching it I've found out these days 😂
I have so totally lived, played, and been so much in the football world earlier, so I have a good perception of what it's all is about anyway, today too, at least in our country.

It get's worse and worse for Man United. They have already lost one of their new signings out due to injury and also to striker Rasmus Hojlund. Now after the Liverpool pre-season game where they lost 3-0, ETH has confirmed that 3 more players have picked up injuries, all defenders.

I think United's backroom staff are creating a team of softies because many in the team keep on getting injured. So much for United pinching one of Arsenal's medical backroom staff to help solve United's injury woes.

THE MASSIVE open the 24/25 campaign at home vs the Pilgrims August 11th.
A win for the Pilgrims then lol (ducks behind the sofa)

As for the start of the season, I think it is so so wrong that the FA Charity Shield is being played on the Saturday the same day all the other leagues start their season off. The Charity Shield should be played before ANY league games start. It should be used as the catalyst signifying the start of the season, then league games start the week after. That's how I think it should be.

Agreed though ...

Julian Alvarez off to Athletico Madrid for €95m. This also means Chelsea will sign 20yr old forward Omorodion from Athletico...on a 7yr contract 😏

I thought the Premier league stopped Chelsea doing this long term contract thing because the PL found it was a way to cheat the FFP system.

We’ve signed a couple of players.
Fulkrug from Dortmund and Rodriguez from Real Betis.
No denying their quality but I’m concerned they are both in their 30’s.
Deal for Wan-Bissaka still on the table but he is looking for a pay off from Man Utd. Reminds me of when we nearly signed McGuire last summer.

You can sign a player for any length but can now only amortise the transfer fee for 5yrs max

Alvarez and Gallgher confirmed. Athleti have spent €137m (€103 if they ship out omorodion) in one swoop, and City have made £67m of pure profit from Alvarez deal

Will be very interesting to see how city re-invests that money, or whether they give more opportunities to some of their younger players from their talent-rich academy.

How in the world is the Community Shield being played this weekend!? Expect Utd to start a center half pairing of Evans and Casemiro. :p Please keep Licha fit and ready for the Fulham match.
