Very scary, agreed, as was today's collapse.
Agreed, and that is reassuring and good to know.
One positive is that the standards of medical care for cardiac issues (the Guardian - quoting Luton's medical staff - are reporting that Tom Lockyer has suffered a cardiac arrest) have improved enormously over the past few decades, and the prognosis for recovery seems to be pretty good.
West Ham register an excellent victory (3-0) over Wolves, while Arsenal defeat Brighton by two goals to nil, a victory that, for however fleetingly, or for however long, also serves to return them to the top of the table.
Elsewhere, Aston Villa (also reduced to ten men by the final whistle) came from a goal down to defeat ten man Brentford by two goals to one, and now lie in second place.

Indeed. Happy with a nice comprehensive victory. If Liverpool beat Man United (which I strongly suspect they will), we will be up to 7th. Happy days.

That was a match I was almost certain that Liverpool would have won; it just goes to show that not everything is certain in football.
34 shots on goal, and that experienced, skilled, attacking squad couldn't put any of them away?
Somedays, no matter what you try, no matter how dominant you are, it seems as though the ball is somehow magnetised to go anywhere but between the posts.
In any case, I had assumed that Arsenal would relinquish their (brief, fleeting) position at the top of the table this evening, and had resigned myself to taking what pleasure I could from four hours occupancy of that spot.
Complacency from 'pool me thinks. Majority of the Liverpool faithful thought they only needed to turn up and they'd beat Utd. Someone even predicted 8-0

Actually, I'm not so sure that it was complacency (although that may have played a role, and I think that Liverpool may have expected to win relatively easily), but that it wasn't Liverpool's day.
There are days - intensely frustrating days - when, despite the fact that your team has the majority of the possession, dominates the game, and exerts complete control, nothing actually works, and - despite an avalanche of shots on goal - nothing, but nothing goes in.
I watched that match this morning. It was actually a good, tight contest. Until ben Mee got sent off...then Brentford's discipline disintegrated and eventually Villa's followed suit. Lots of pointless aggro and shameful diving. The ref got most of the calls right but by the end the players were making it impossible for him. 14 cards including both managers and former Bee Ollie Watkins taunting the home fans after scoring Villa's second (he claimed his celebration was directed at one abusive home fan. Whatever, I find celebration scandals incredibly boring).
Brentford missed two very good chances and Mee's tackle was, under today's interpretation of the rules, an obvious red. So they probably should drawn or even won but they were in a large part architects of their own destruction. But yes, several players on both sides will hopefully wake up tomorrow feeling pretty sheepish. If Maupay had a goal for every fight he started... Martinez doesn't come out looking any better after that tussle either. Childish.

Man Utd might be in a mess as a club, and very inconsistent, but that's not the same thing as a guaranteed 7-0. Klopp and the players would not have approached this game with arrogance; neither would any seasoned fans for whom decades of tight derbies provide ample warning not to expect anything. Likewise ETH and the Man Utd players would have known that this game was a derby too.
Both teams were fired up and, is so often the case in such derbies, the two sides seemingly cancelled each other out both in effort and sloppiness. I need to re-watch the match but, still, I don't see anything in this performance that worries me as a Liverpool fan. Still, naturally I was hoping for different result. Klopp will bemoan the fact that Liverpool weren't able to put any of their chances away. ETH and Man Utd fans will wonder where that level of fight is most weeks. It's worth pointing out this era of Man Utd are probably at their best when playing the underdog role in a match, hitting opponents on the break, as here. They didn't score, but were harder to break down.

Fair comment. Utd parked the bus and it worked. The best point they'll earn all season. I had a feeling before the game, that this would be one of those days. Hey ho.
Indeed. It was a pretty difficult period of the game. I think the referee should have stepped in a bit earlier. He let the incidents escalate too much imo.
The Villa goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez, was deliberately elbowed off the ball by the Brentford player, Neil Maupay. He then overreacted in comical fashion, by throwing himself to the ground and pretending to be mortally wounded. Maupay's reaction was to laugh, understandably. Then moments later, as Maupay was walking past Martinez, the goalie tapped him on the back, and Maupay threw himself to the ground, obviously taking the p. Martinez was angered by this and tried to drag Maupay off the ground by his shirt. This sparked of a meleé between both sets of players, and a Villa player was then sent off for a shove in the face on a Brentford player. All rather childish. And ultimatley, caused by Maupay's original foul for which he could very well have been sent off. So he got away with that. But Martinez had the last laugh as Villa won 2-1. Maupay must be feeling a bit of a dick today.

The CL draw has produced some remarkably boring knockout ties. Man City vs Copenhagen or Real Madrid vs Leipzig….meh.

He issued 14 cards…I doubt there was much more he could have done. Some of the players just lost their heads and were determined to act like idiots.

I watched the highlights, but it seemed like an earlier word with one or two might have helped. I hadn’t realised how many he had booked.
Reminds me of a story my Dad liked to tell. A number of his team had been booked (he was player manager then). He turned to the ref at the next booking and said ‘don’t bother taking his name. I’ll just give you the team sheet after the game’.
Needless to say he got booked!
Basically both sets of players trying to con the ref.
