How has apple cheated any of you?

The iPad 3rd gen you bought is still the exact same as when you bought it and were satisfied with it.

Regardless of future product upgrades, it is still WHAT APPLE ADVERTISED TO YOU WHEN YOU BOUGHT IT! NOTHING CAN CHANGE THAT!

Is it even in their lineup anymore?

No, but why is that relevant even one bit?

Apple advertised 3rd gen iPad, you paid for and got one.

You got what was advertised to you! Nothing has changed!

Crazy, that didn't last long at all. I totally, absolutely agree with you!! In fact, the New new-iPad means nothing to me as it won't be jailbroken for a long time. The upgrade pales in comparison the jailbreak IMHO

Nope. Weirdly they now have the mini, which is basically a mini 2 + better camera, the 2, which now has optional cell phone access again, then the 4 lol.

I'd guess the 3 (with a lightening connector) will come back as the $400 (or whatever) model when the iPad 5 launches...or something like that.

Good news for me is my iPad 2 STILL isn't out of date as they're still selling the 2, and the mini is the same hardware :-D

This is an updated iPad in the same calendar year.

It wouldn't be so bad if this new new iPad came out in March/April like usual but this has to feel like a little punch to the balls for the 3rd gen iPad owners.

It's interesting that the iPad 3 is being retired entirely, but Apple is keeping the iPad 2 around as the discount option. Generally, its always the previous model that earns the discount option.

I figure they think it'll drive more 4 sales, plus the 3 has over 50% more CPU/GPU transisters....although those parts are dirt cheap.

Plus screen, more battery.

Nope, because the genius of the Apple marketing department, everyone's iPad is THE iPad, it can never be obsolete now. :D

If I had an iPad 3, I wouldn't upgrade it until they make it thinner and lighter.

yay we needed more threads about this!!..not

i dont understand why people are so butthurt.. the ipad 4..is the ipad 3 as it should have been. ..apple isnt going to mark it down to ipad 2 prices...because its almost exactly the same as the ipad 4.. they make more money off the ipad 2..
you will still get updates people.. you can still tell people its the new ipad just hide the dock.. ;) most wont be able to tell the speed change.

I'm more worried about future app development.

The only retina iPad on SALE is the 4th Gen, so obviously retina iPad apps will be optimised for that device. What will this mean for the 3rd Gen iPad? Will devs bother testing for a device no longer sold to see what level of performance their app will get on the 3rd Gen? Will it be a stripped down version? Will it be an upscaled iPad 2 resolution version? Will it even be supported at all?
