People are going to interpret this thread as a coping strategy for someone who feels insecure about choosing an 8. I'm not saying that's what it is, but that's how people will interpret it.

I enjoy pointing out the X only has a ten month life span anyway so why waste all that cash. Next year will be better.

I think a lot of threads can be interpreted similarly. It’s seems inevitable, thanks to Apple staggering the launch of the major devices this year.

I remember MacRumors almost going down a few years ago because people were arguing so much over differences in the iPhone they had over the iPhone someone else had. The mods had to dump a lot of threads, if I recall correctly.

The X is going to stop working after 10 months?! I don't think that Apple would put out a phone like that!

Okay, I know what you mean, but seriously, how do you know that the X's successor won't also come out in November? And even if it does come in September, I think the vast majority of people getting ready to put down over $1000 for an X have no intention of upgrading again in 2018, so it really doesn't matter when the successor comes. I'm certain that if I get an X, I'm not getting another phone until 2019 at the earliest, or very likely 2020.

I have the same mentality... I really don’t want to spill the greens for another upgraded phone if it’s so much better than the one this year... unless it is significant (in display TouchID) would be one of them...

Are you almost certain you will get an X at this point? And have it be your phone for a couple of years?

Because surely they would be producing enough by then? It will be more interesting to see where the current X drops down to. Will it be dropped or a price reduction?

I'm literally changing my mind on a daily basis, but as of this moment, I intend to get an X. Even if I get an 8+ I would expect to keep it for at least 2 years. No offense to those who do so, but I consider getting a new flagship phone every year to be wasteful. I can guarantee that whichever phone I get it will be able to do everything that I need for years to come. Heck, if I'm completely honest, I could keep using my 6 for another year (as my less techy friends often point out). All I really use my phone for is calls, texts, email, social media, camera, music player, maps, and some light gaming, transactions, and web surfing. Any smartphone can do those things in this day and age. But, like a sucker, I'm probably going to pay over $1000 for one that just does those things a bit faster and looks good doing it! I won't be able to justify (to myself) upgrading again soon.

For me iPads don’t need updated every year but I enjoy getting a new phone every year.

Well yeah the X is overshadowing it.

I personally am very happy with the iPhone 8. I’m still on the 6s+ but I can’t wait to upgrade to the 8+. The new glass back+wireless charging are nice upgrades.

I'll show you my 2017 collection by the end of the year and the same next year etc

Not really because the X is not released yet quite a buzz for the 8.

This is what I think too. The X is alright, I personally don't think it looks nice at all but I feel like in a year or two, Apple would have perfected the bezel-less display and it'll become more natural for them to work with. Right now, it's foreign territory and it just doesn't feel right. I'm glad they've come out with it, I won't be upgrading for at least another 2/3years now I have the 8+ so in 2019/20 I'm excited for what Apple will come out. I wouldn't drop £1k on the X now, but I'll happily pay that much or more in a couple years when the tech is improved and perfected.

I'm sure a lot of people will get the X though and it'll make all the older iPhones look incredibly outdated, but equally there will be a lot of people who'll either decide to stick with the original iPhone designs or jump ship to Android.

In any case, who really cares? If you want the X, go for it. If you want the 8, go for it. If you want anything else? Sure go for it. If you don't want a phone? You're weird but cool go for that too.

Well, I’m gonna go for a new roof so no new phone for me this year. At least I have my priorities straight. Also, Glad I have an awesome 7 to hold me over. Maybe next year the XI will be even better. Enjoy your new phones everyone!

usually iPhones are not much better after just one year and i doubt the jump will be bigger next year. this is actually the first time i'm upgrading after just one year and i feel like it's worth it.

the X is the phone i wanted to get last year.
but i still bought the 7, because i was not happy with my android phone.
