so, we have the thermal-gate people, the midnight fingerprint-gate people, the 256G SSD-gate people. it’s a small forum, so some people are in more than one group.

eventually, we’ll have a bunch of class action lawsuits. then, in a couple of years, apple will settle up, collapse financially... and fold. then we’ll all be out buying dell laptops… and reminiscing about how great the M2 air was. 🤣

Dell laptops? No. Yuck.

It wouldn’t be an official Apple release without some sort of drama and “gate” issues.

Then there’s the Dell Xps 13 plus that keeps topping the charts as the best laptop, even with multiple reviews of motherboard failures, trackpad issues, severe heat and poor battery life. Apparently that’s what makes it the best windows laptop, as long as it’s got zero bezels, the rest is ok.

Exactly. So many comparison videos of the mba m2 killing the competition with less specs. Battery life? Oh don’t get me started on that one. A $1800 windows laptop being demolished on battery life by an air MacBook. Oh how could apple do that. They suck. MBA m2 a huge failure.

Yup sarcasm at best.

Destroys them in battery life at full power to boot. Even in their highest performance settings on battery life, they are still throttled down to conserve the battery and it still kills the battery in just a couple hours at the high performance setting.

They still fall short by hours even on their most conservative performance settings that just murders their performance.

I was close to getting myself a windows laptop because they do a damn good job at making them look pretty and futuristic. But once you dig into all the corners they have to cut, it’s not so impressive anymore. Especially for those who want to actually use their laptop as a laptop. If I wanted something that’s just going to live at a desk plugged in, theirs much better desktop options out there

Didn’t max tech connect the windows laptop to charge because it died? Meanwhile mba m2 still had 20% battery left. Even playing conservative battery on the MB it was beating the windows laptop on high settings. That’s like wow. Yet it’s failure to many. I agree with you. I don’t want my laptop plugged all the time. No thanx.

He started them both at 60%, had the dell on the low power mode, it died in the middle of the Geekbench compute test and the MacBook still had 40% left. It only lost 20% battery to dells 60% running in low power lol

The only gate I'd be interested is the SSD gate. There is little logic behind that change even at the M2 MBP. It just gimps both machines terribly.

I’m waiting to see if my new mba still has the speed of 2x128.. oh the suspense

I wish there was an official statement on this. I know we won't get one but it'd be interesting to see if it was actually because their supplier couldn't deliver 128 modules or decided not to produce them anymore.
It kinda makes me wish Apple had then said "well, screw this, let's make the base storage 512". One can dream, right?

I guess depends on who is still buying 128gb at volume, as to if it still gets made….

I do hope there’s enough around for existing m1’s now being made!!

There is a shortage on many things. I do believe about the 128gb no longer being made by many manufactures. I searched for some online and noticed many places don't even stock it anymore.

yes we need a class action lawsuit for the ssd scam apple needs to be clubbed over the head with a frozen tuna a dozen times esp this cancer cook that took over...

so many stupid moves from apple.. they have no purpose anymore.. eventually everyone will consume everything china.

people cheer u to the top, then for your demise. cycle of life baby. just look at all the new blood that invested apple... the story is over. only a r-tard fanatic would deny it

I'm with @jav6454.
Fingerprint-gate? Well who didn't know black-anodised metal shows greasy finger prints? Answer = well I guess everyone who complained, who presumably also never owned an iPhone 5. No gate here.
Throttle-gate? Turns out when a sweating M2 throttles down by more as a percentage than a throttling M1, it's still faster than the aforementioned throttling M1. No gate here.
SSD-gate? Absolutely. Both base machines (M2 Pro, M2 Air) are, in real life tests, slower than their base M1 equivalents because of a design choice, especially with 8GB RAM because they will be relying on swap-memory more often than 16GB versions. I don't buy it that a shortage of 128GB NANDs forced Apple's hand when 256GB M1 Macs exist with dual NANDs. It was just penny-pinching.

The whole NAND debacle was driven by pure profit. I mean, shocker there, but in a sense it is a shocker given they had a nice line up previously on the base models.

It's just corporate greed. Forcing people to buy higher specs for $200 more just to get decent performance.

Just got new M1 Air Today - seems still the faster SSD on the 256?
