I had hoped that I could survive on the ATV4 alone, but I can't. Although we got -- with much fanfare -- BBC iPlayer, it is not a patch on the one you get with Amazon Fire TV. No [start at the beginning] option for live TV, no favourites, no log-in, no [recently watched], difficult to find programmes without searching, ... And we're still waiting for an alleged Amazon Prime app.

So the AFTV has been reconnected: for iPlayer and Prime. ATV4 for iTunes and NowTV. Either for Netflix. (I have a Samsung smart tv, so that has apps for these things, too, but they're not as good.)

I have to say that all the TV-watching apps on ATV4 are pretty poor, except maybe Netflix. None of them make it easy to find content, not least iTunes itself. I bought TBBT Season 9 pass, and Seasons 1-6 box set. It regards the Season 1-6 boxset as one season, so endless scrolling through over 100 episodes. Similar deal for Family Guy, though in that case it's worse because the seasons aren't even listed in order.

For TV show organization (and Movies as well), I have 2 words for you ... Smart Playlists.

I set them for every show I'm serious about, and they show up on my ATV4 the way I want them. Classic Doctor Who and MST3K alone the old way, was enough to get me to organize.

The unfortunate sad fact is, Apple has been playing catch up to the competition with most of their products for a while now.

I have to agree. Smart playlists as Mad Hatter proposes are a good idea for organizing certain content, but this is a solution that wouldn't be needed if Apple's organizational tools were better and it doesn't help with all of the issues OP identified. Instead of writing him off as some posters have done, I think it would be a better use of this forum to acknowledge weaknesses and discuss competing solutions (or unimplemented potential solutions) that better handle those issues. OP didn't say that ATV4 is a worthless product; he merely told us about a competing product that does something better than Apple's. Do we want to be fanboys talking only about how cool our stuff is or do we want meaningful discussion?

To be fair, I said I was back to using the AFTV in addition to using my ATV4. I like the ATV4. It's just not as good as it could/should be.

And, as I've said before, if Apple didn't massively overhype their products, our expectations might not be so high.

Though having said that, clearly separating tv shows into seasons doesn't seem like some giant innovation that it's unreasonable for me to expect.

The former for a lot of iSheep on here unfortunately :(

But to add, I have an ATV4 too and was it worth the wait? Of course not...it's lacking in pretty much every department. It doesn't excel at anything, not even its own iTunes stuff. It's a sloppy release by a company becoming more sloppy with many things it does.

I do believe it will get better but with no thanks to Apple in the immediate future (the remote is an abortion)

And it's even worse, much worse if you live in Mexico like I do...

I also have one and am in almost complete agreement.

That's mature.

Completely agree. Apple TV 4 and all of Apple's recent products are nothing but an endless stream of incremental disappointments. And Mac Pro - for what Apple set up a new manufacturing facility in Texas - has not been updated in 3 years. What are the people in the Mac division doing, sitting on their hands? Then there is the turd called the iPad Pro. Nothing that runs iOS can be "pro" at anything. It should have shipped with Mac OS X so all Mac OS pro apps could be used on it from day one. But that would require Apple to actually innovate and develop something new. It hasn't done that since Steve Jobs died. Well, with one exception - Apple Watch. But that product is a disaster as well.
