iPad Pro The Apple Pencil Hover feature is a game changer for the iPad

I just read the Macstories review of the M2 iPad Pro and the Hover feature is a game changer. Apple highlighted how useful it was for artists in marketing material but they didn't show how useful it is for browsing the web or navigating the iPadOS Ui in general. It turns out, the M2 iPad Pro's are a bigger update than we thought.

It's only available with the M2. Of course this functionality has been very common for the last 15 years on Windows.

it is, we tested on the M1 ipad pro that we have and it works but its garbage...the tip must be under 10mm distance and the accuracy is very strange and not reliable

its a very nice feature for drawing and controlling palette of couloirs, sizing and accuracy
Its not a game changing for the usual ipad user i think
Again M2, hover features etc are not meant for the normal ipad users....this is why the ipad and even ipad mini/air exist
If you use pro apps and drawing apps you pay the price but it is worth it, you get what you pay for

What in the actual fu**??!! It's actually true! I tried it in sidecar and it totally works! Only with very low proximity to the screen but totally usable.

Whoa I didn’t know it works in Sidecar too, awesome! I just saw a video of someone with an M1 iPad demonstrating it in Reddit, but it looked like the tip had to be super close to the screen. Hopefully it works a lot better with M2. This is great, I’ve been wanting this for a long time.

I’m glad for hover just for drawing and writing, any other UI stuff will be gravy.

It’s a huge feature that’s been missing on iPad for me. Hover allows more precise stylus use. And it’s funny you say change cursor design, because it changes the cursor shape and size based on your selected brush/pen, so you know what your mark is going to look like, which is very helpful. Also useful for seeing extra information like the name of a button, at least on desktop OSes.

There're certain pen functions that simply required a cursor. And folks, let's call it what it is, a cursor LOL

It started pretty much with Wacom, then all the Windows Tablet makers came out with their own methods, generally inferior to the Wacom EM method, after Wacom's patent expired many years ago. Samsung still uses the Wacom method.

So now good ol Apple reinvents it and calls it 'hover'. How nice. Bless them.

I will be using it, btw. M2 iPad incoming.

note: All the highlighting, Lensing crap with hover is old hat.
