I think the whole 10.1'' screen thing is pretty smart. Because that gives about a 1/2'' border around the entire thing as a border--making it the size of a peice of paper. And that makes me hope for a major note taking/ catalogging/ sketching tool.

I would just like to stop buying masses of pads of paper every semester for classes.... And that is my day dream.

Phantom Menace or Last Crusade?

This thing may not be able to live up to the hype, or will it? Here's talking about Star Wars Phantom Menace and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade with the Mac tablet: http://bit.ly/bHek5J

20 Things I already know about Apple's tablet:

21. It will cost a third more than what you hoped it would cost.

If this new device is supposed to be able to play games, movies, surf the net, have iPhone apps as well as be an e-reader, I wonder how the same screen is going to look for all those functions? Amazon's kindle reader has a screen optimized only for reading that is very easy on the eyes. I couldn't imagine watching movies on it, for example.

Maybe Apple will offer different screen settings?

See, I was wondering that too. Any LCD/OLED screen will be harder on the eyes than e-ink, and people will not want to use it to read anything longer than your standard internet content. And any e-ink screen won't be able to handle the multimedia this thing needs to do to succeed.

I'm wondering if it'll succeed at everything else, but fail at being a decent e-reader, which is purportedly one of its main functions.

Reaaaaaly curious what'll happen. Less than 24 hours, and we will know. :)

This hype is KILLING ME!!:(
:apple:

It is making me laugh.
I'm sure it's gonna be cool, but this rampant over exuberance borders on fanaticism.
Some of the quotes of excitement are pathetic in their childishness.
It's a damn computer people. Well unfortunately it's probably not even that.
So you can now watch movies and TV on a 10 inch screen. Woopee! What do you all think this thing is gonna do that's making you all wet your pants?
Don't get me wrong. I love Apple, their products and their innovation. But unless this can transport me to another planet or make my breakfast I completely fail to see what this crazy hype is all about.:confused::confused:

19: so true. If I don;t buy one, it's because I'm waiting for the v.2 to come out and stomp the first version.

"and that people will be surprised at how you interact with it. "

I don't know what to think of that statement. Surprised would be if I had to use the back of my hand or my nose or elbow. I am expecting to use my fingers. Maybe the video camera will see gestures and that is what the surprise is.

What would REALLY be surprising is if the technology is so advanced, that it would project a 3D holographic User Interface that can be completely manipulated.

I doubt we're there yet. Nevertheless, I hope we're actually surprised.

I really don't get this.. All over this planet there are millions of people spending their entire days looking the WHOLE day at LCD screens, be it on the couch or at work..

I see the point that e-ink is better suited for reading, but I have yet to encounter someone with LCD screen fatigue or whatever. To me this whole "LCD-screens are not suitable for reading" sounds a lot like an argument that someone thought out at some point and everyone keeps repeating without thinking what they are actually saying.

Whatever became of the much rumored iPhone nano from a year back?
https://www.macrumors.com/2008/12/22/iphone-nano-concept-photo/

If it was killed for potential to cannibalize iPhone sales, it could be a goer as a tethered companion to the tablet which doesn't really want to be a phone. I'd love to have a phone that was just a phone.

Maybe eye tracking is coming one day. Cameras have been doing it for years in a low-resolution way.

What about pressure sensitive touch?? - press harder to drill down

Other than filling the $500 price point, I don't see that this device will have any practical use. In terms of practicality and usefulness, I see that there are two types of devices -- those that fit in your pocket and those that don't. This won't. So it will have to compete with the netbook market. The netbook market is based solely on price, not on necessity. Apple has already proven that you can make a light full sized notebook, the macbook air is just very expensive. So, as the netbook is scaling the notebook down to make it cheeper, the tablet will be scaling the iPhone up to make it more expensive. And as the notebook adds no new functionality over the netbook, the tablet will offer very little new functionality over the iphone. It will however be much less portable.

Do not make judgements until you know the entirety of the device. You haven't even seen the thing!

I'm wondering if it'll succeed at everything else, but fail at being a decent e-reader, which is purportedly one of its main functions.

Yes, the deal-maker for me on this one is going to be a colour e-ink e-reader that doesn't punish me for not daring to not be American like Amazon does with the "International" (my ar$e) Kindle

My beloved powerbook died. I'm interested in this if it can do at least a few minimum computer-like things. If I can work on documents, internet, email, print, watch dvds, etc, that might be enough. I'd love to have something like this replace a laptop.

Someone mentinoed the size relative to a piece of paper. I'd like to see them find a way to use this form to take notes. I'm not sure how to do it without using the screen like a piece of paper (with a pen or stylus? -- and eliminating the ability to use the tablet as your textbook at the same time).

Anyway, I'm optimistic that this will be something worth getting.

Is it just me that wishes the iTablet would be e-ink? Why would I buy a tablet with a TFT screen.. when I could just use my laptop...

I expect Steve Jobs to walk on stage and simply say "PSYCH", announce his retirement and leave the stage. What would follow would be a mass ritualistic fanboy suicide with last words being tweeted from iPhones the world over!

OK, actually I really hope tomorrow lives up to the hype!

I don’t understand why people think they need e-Ink. I read on a regular computer screen ALL DAY LONG, and suddenly its supposed to make my eyes tired if I read a book on it?
whatever
