It is not Gorilla Glass on the front too.

Heck, even Gorilla Glass can shatter or get scratches. No glass is really shatter-proof or 100% scratch-proof. Resistant? Yeah. Doesn't mean it can't break. I've seen the front of the iPhone 2G and 3G shatter just the same.

Apple will not tell what the glass is and corning is not going to admit. The gorilla glass in the iphone is made at the corning plant in Harrodsburg, KY.
Wrong.
The glass on the iPhone is "similar" to Gorilla glass, it is NOT genuine Gorilla Glass.
Apple never said it was either.
Apple uses aluminosilicate glass, which is similar to Gorilla glass.
Gorilla glass is alkali-aluminosilicate.

ALL phones using Corning Gorilla Glass have to identify it as such and the Corning trademarks are listed in the documentation.

Tell you that, I had my phone dropped from standing height right onto a concrete floor of a backroom of a retail store with NO CASE and it was fine. I've dropped it several times on hardwood floors and other non-carpeted areas with only a bumper and it hasn't cracked or shattered yet either.

I'm not saying it isn't a fragile phone, because it is, but it is more durable than I think most make it out to be. At least in my own experience(s).

Are you nearby? Can you knock on their doors and ask for documentation proving this?

Apple presumably would not spend millions of dollars in licensing to make iPhones with Gorilla Glass.

So a company with 50+ billion dollars in the bank, wouldn't spend an extra few million increasing the strength of their glass? Doubt it.

I'm pretty sure the front IS gorilla glass.

Every penny counts, my friend. It's business, billions of dollars or not.

Gorilla Glass? Get a Case

This is what is so maddening about iPhones. They are fragile. But hey, if you can carry around a mini computer, camera, and phone all in one place its bound to be a little touchy. I agree that every iPhone owner should invest in an iPhone case.

Some of them are crap, and won't help protect your phone. I bought a flip case and it was crummy. But I now have the MicroShell iPhone 4 Case and its made such a difference.

But I have to admit, I did chuckle..."You dropped it wrong". It's never the phone's fault in this world is it?

Ha. Buy a case, and you won't miss the Gorilla Glass (which I don't think is on the back either, just the front)

Business also means you need to make sure your products are of good quality or your business will fail.

Ok...so what are you implying? That Apple's proprietary glass is not as good as Corning's Gorilla Glass?

Wanna bet iPhone 5 comes with a plastic or metal back? ;)
i'm betting the iphone 5 will be identical to the iphone 4 except for some internals and perhaps ios 5.

apple will never change the back glass because it would be admitting it was a stupid idea in the first place. they might come back and say they've found a stronger glass, but it will remain glass non-the-less.

What does that prove? It could of been tun over by a car. Any glass will shatter with enough force.

proves that when it breaks, the iphone 4 breaks more spectacularly than any other phone on the market.:D

Apple has backtracked before by changing the Shuffle back to its old design after the buttonless model met a lot of criticism. They also added FireWire back to MacBooks.

They do admit failure by changing designs. Not often, but it is not unprecedented.

:p Preach on

It's proven that Gorilla glass is stronger. Apple proprietary glass may be bendable but when it comes to actual durability the gorilla glass wins hands down. A google search would back up what I'm saying.
