I use Windows PCs for all my programming and data analysing needs but I use an old 2006 upgraded (upgraded to Intel Core2D with 2GB ram) Mac Mini for web browsing and entertainment (both connected to the same monitor the former with RGB and the latter with HDMI).

I want to buy the base model of 2014 Mac Mini. It is confusing to make a decision due to the many controversies surrounding these new minis (e.g. ram cannot be upgraded, 4K limitations etc.) I need the Mac Mini 2014 for better graphics (than my existing one with Intel 950 graphics), occasionally to watch 4K video or movies, 4K still images, a faster response time than my current MacMini and for my son to occassionally play MineCraft. Kindly let me know if the new base model Macmini can fullfill these requirements.

Kindly also let me know if the quality of the text and pictures on the display will be any bettter since it is using HD 5000 graphics (as compared with my existing MacMini).

The new baseline 2014 Mac Mini will be a very big upgrade for you. The quality of the text and images may not improve much as the screen or monitor you are using may not be of the best quality.
