That's too bad... Is there a way to download the iTunes Extras stuff? No interest in renting half of it. Wait...what is downloaded and what is online only? Oh, I see. Wow. That's confusing. So back to the original question...

The Album with the videos is sold on Amazon as a physical Blu-ray set (it's pricey though). If I buy it, i'd get that. But I already own the album and have no interest in the vids.

Yes I have the bluray set. The remixed stereo album is fantastic.Gone are the horrible early stereo mixes, replaced with a more natural modern mix,and the sound quality is first rate. As to the videos,I'm afraid they are kind of hard to watch. Some are live, many are shot in a studio with the band really not interested in realistically lip-syncing.In some of them they don't even have Ringo"playing" the drums. No joke on one he rides a stationary bike while the others pretend(badly)to play and sing,on another he sits on the ground looking down with a bored expression while the others are standing in a semicircle around him"performing". Truly bizarre. They did remix a bunch of the videos in surround which is cool, and I'm glad to have seen them for the sake of history, but only a few bear repeat viewing.

The Beatles broke up about 45 years ago. Forty five years from now how may of the music groups active today will still be relevant? Elvis, Bob Dylan, The Beatles and may others from the 50s - 70s show us that true talent will survive the years.
Well said. With their proven longevity, these groups are the classics of tomorrow. And if anyone doubts that, count how many songs from that era show up with regularity in newly released movies.

Bunch of retired musicians who want more money from music they made and sold years ago…

Disgusting.

Someone is making money off their music but it isn't the musicians since neither currently hold the rights to the music. It was previously owned by Michael Jackson

For Beatles fans , a nice surprise before xmas!

Michael Jackson's estate owns it.

He sold it to apple, I thought. Jobs was a huge fan, and Jackson needed the money.

Edit: I'm wrong, got confused by the record label Apple Music.

The HD is £17.99 and 7.04 GB
The SD is £14.99 and 2.51 GB

Anyone with 2015 rMBP 13" or iPad mini 2 can you see the difference? (I don't use a telly much anymore).

Cheers

You are confusing the rights to publishing the Beatles music and the rights to the actual recorded music. Jackson purchased Northern Songs which later ended up being controlled by Sony.

The rights to the Beatles recordings are still owned by EMI and Apple Corps.

Unless you're hurting for 4.5GB on your computer, or the price of a large latte I'd recommend getting the HD version.

If 4.5GB is that important to you I would recommend saving your money and buying a new, larger SSD. :)

After reading the post, I headed over to iTunes to check it out.
Where does it say that it includes the audio files?
With the remixed 1 album, this is a pretty good deal.
If it is video only, I won't bother.
I'm reading through the details and nowhere do they say the audio is included.

I'll be careful here. As some here have seen, I never discount the impact of the Beatles on today's music and their music certainly stands on its own merit by continuing to have new fans each and every day. However, I must agree that Apple sure seems to find new ways to squeeze more coins from our coffers. I am sure it wont just be the Beatles but we'll see similar packages in the future for other artists. Sadly, its not about the art (music) but about having a product in a pretty bright wrapper to get us to spend more.

Incidentally, if you folks like some good Beatles and other artists vids, try youtube. I have found all sorts of interesting stuff at zero cost ranging from early Beatles recordings and filming to entertaining "proof" that Paul was replaced by Billy Shears early on. I find it fun to dig in and look/listen to all sorts of artists for FREE including early jazz and blues artists etc.

Hi
Thanks for your reply. The rMBP '15 has plenty of SSD space left.

And yes £3.00 is less than my Starbucks latte.

I was just thinking about quality of picture, but I guess the HD is more 'future proof' anyway.

Actually, you are wrong - although I'm fully prepared to be proven incorrect. But MJ's estate owns the publishing rights to the entire beatles catalog. He paid a 1/2 billion for it. And it's the Sony Catalog that he owned.

Sorry, I had got it slightly wrong because Sony and the MJ estate each own half of the combined Sony/ATV publishing company. Sony are currently trying to sell off their 50% share.

The Beatles and their record label (formerly EMI but now I think it's now Parlophone/Universal) still own the actual recorded music though.

lol I love these posts always bring out the beatles bashers. LOL

I already gave up trying to defend them to my friends and associates that clearly look at my obsession as something to troll, it just isn't worth it anymore to engage. Now I just ask if they ever picked up an instrument and when the answer is no I feel I'm justified to ignore any further musical commentary...

I will say this, the only alternative to the beatles is an alternative universe where people have simply never heard of the 'prototype' of a rock band or 'rock bands' as we know it would just cease to exist. They are that centered in the universe of music, no matter what your personal opinion is.

And you contributed what to music or society? Oh... thought so..
I've contributed absolutely nothing to either…

But I never said that I did.

I was commenting on the practice of re-selling old music at full price simply by adding a few minutes of "never before seen footage", a never-before-published "rare" version of a popular track, and what-not.

Don't charge us full price for everything again. Just charge us for the scraps that you're adding.

bought the HD in the end & can download the SD without extras if needed (for my iPad mini 2 16GB).

I paid with a iTunes voucher that I bought for 20% off plus club card points at Tesco. If you look around you can always get 15-20% off itunes & GPM vouchers and it makes these purchases much better value for money.

Maybe ^ should do this.

cheers

The above is not what you said nor implied however, I can say the above comment itself should have been your first comment and not some button pushing blather. As much as it saddens me, I happen to agree (to a point) with your above comment.

You know what's worse than the beatls bashers? People like you.

Not everybody likes hippie radio music from 50 years ago. Deal with it!

Hmmm Beatles were hits before there were "hippies" and certainly plenty of their music was not "hippie" music. I have to say you gave me a good snicker here. I just love when people today have such a lackluster understanding of music in general and certainly basic modern history as related to music. Now please go back to your Miley twerking and leave the conversation to the few adults here.

The Beatles are already in the history books, despite what any bitter brats today have to say.

Just like all other history rewriters for whatever agenda and whatever misbegotten reason, they are doomed to fail.

Were they perfect? Far from it. Were they great? Inarguably.
