I intended this post to be a quick giggle rather than the massive debate it seems to have sparked.

Still, this topic is trying to be in good humour :)

Well think about this

1/ cost. A mac is £800 at the least. rather expensive for the bottom specs
2/ Custom Build options. You can customise a PC more than a Mac, and swap out major things such as graphics card, motherboard and all sorts for a lower price than upgrading a mac.
3/ Better software - i agree
4/ More software... you have to be kidding me... windows is a far more popular base for building on then OS X
5/Better reliability, 10 weeks ago i would have agreed, howver with all of the problems with the iMac. im not so sure.
6/Better performane. the OS yes... and running programs yes... i agree.
7/Games... on a mac, you have to be kidding me. windows has about 1000% more games than OS X.
8/Choice. Windows and PC in general have thousands more options than Macs

I think he was agreeing with you. Not arguing.

Well, unless you're using a computer from about 5 years ago, the chances are you either have a laptop or a monitor with the webcam built into it.
So.. I mean, I don't know, would I rather wait a few hours for Apple to repair my iSight, or live with a PC just so I would never have to get my monitor fixed lol.

your argument isn't valid.

Sure. Strangely enough, though, my Mac Pro is about the same mess as the Dell when I look on my desk. I wonder why Apple hasn't put their one and only customizable/expandable machine in that ad.

It's all a matter of opinion of course but even in a showdown of the Mac Pro -v- that Dell I'm going Apple. Dell makes some good Windows machines but aesthetics is definitely not their strong point. :p

I also wonder why they are not showing their backup solution in that ad, either. I mean, Time Machine requires an EXTERNAL hard disk, even on an iMac. Let the mess begin. Also, Time Machine requires a hard disk that is much larger than the built-in disk of the computer. Now the new iMacs have 2 TB disk options, which leaves us with the question what backup device Apple is offering their customers for that. Time Capsule isn't big enough for that.

I am using a 1.5TB Seagate HD in an Icy Dock Firewire 800 enclosure. It's got exactly two cables (power cable and Firewire 800) and is as sleek as the iMac it sits next to. It's easy enough to put in a 2TB HD as well.

I'm not a big fan of the Time Capsule. I have a need for speed.

I do wish for Apple to make a consumer level stand alone desktop (that is not a mini dammit!). Core i7, 4 ram slots and upgradable GPU. Then I wouldn't need to "win a good iMac lottery" with their displays...

It's a very clever take on this famous Apple ad but in the end, I can't get by the original point of the ad which is what a god awful mess the Dell is in comparison to the iMac.

I'll wait a few days to get my beautiful, sleek iMac back, thanks. It's worth it, lol.

Plus the new iMac doesn't have cords for the mouse/keyboard anymore so its even more clean.

The Dell is more likely to have hardware problems. Apple hardware is first grade. In any case, I'd rather have a nice computer I can use 99% and the 1% it breaks I send it in rather than a POS computer I use 99% time and celebrate that when it breaks, I don't have to send the whole computer in.

They should update it to something regarding the screen quality on newer iMacs. For my pc i'd just grab another monitor from my basement (even a 1024x768 crt is better than nothing).

i would go a step further
a standalone ,and get osx on the open market so everybody could enjoy having osx and build its own system , that would mean multi processor support
not only intel

Because they are comparing consumer PCs, not pro PCs.

PCs require external backup too. Otherwise if the PC gets stolen, so does your backup. I'm sure the Time Capsule will be getting a refresh very shortly.
Or, simply put, this Apple ad is only any good when you switch off your brain and don't think about it for a second. It's their typical nonsense, especially when you compare the iMac in all its glory with their other Macs, namely the Mini and the Pro.

I agree with you about the Mini, however the Pro is in a different catagory. Although even the Mini generally appears tidier than that Dell.

there is no benefit of having a pc , as no support for osx and a computer without osx is obsolete

The only thing that holds me onto the imac is OS X.

The mac mini is to slow and the mac pro is in Europe too expensive. But if I had the choice to use OSX hassle free and legal on a custom computer, I wouldn't hesitate one minute.

Although I love the clutter free desktop my iMac provides me, the quality (especially knowing what you pay for it) isn't always what it should be.

All-in-one PCs are taking off too, unfortunately a lot of them are weak net tops.

But Sony, Dell, Asus and Acer are producing more powerful AIOs

And you know what, they are in the same price range as the iMac... Looks like PC users long standing argument is starting to ware a little thin.

- i have to confess, i have put together PC that handles more or less every game i throw at it for roughly half of the imac's price, i'm holding off replacing my desktop until the 21.1" goes quad.

and some of these AIO`s look pretty decent too but sadly no osx on them so what is the point of having them if you need to use windows
ok there is always the option of linux and its countless distro`s :),
which i found runs pretty much on everything that looks remotely like a computer and ubuntu for example you can give the look of osx (fully legal)
and its easier then try to hack osx on a pc (which is illegal)

Not to start a pointless Microsoft -v- Apple debate again but have you tried Windows 7? I don't agree with statements like that at all. As much as I love Snow Leopard, I find myself spending a lot of time in Windows 7 with Boot Camp as well. I switched from PCs to Macs in 2006 after 15 years with Microsoft (from DOS to XP). In my opinion, Windows 7 is Microsoft's best OS yet.

At any rate, it is not deserving of such flippant remarks as that.

I do agree that the ability to run both Windows and OS X is a huge advantage for the Mac over PC AIOs though.

+1

after using 7 extensively recently. Going to Os X now feels like going back in time.

I thought the original post was pretty fun, then I had a laugh at the discussion that ensued.

double-win!

i used windows 7 in fact i used all windows editions since windows 3.0 and that is enough , nearly 20 years of windows use is more then one can take
without getting insane ;)

using that logic.........

This too is accurate.....

Thats actually very inaccurate. The laptop posted is a Dell, and Dell sends a tech to your house to fix the hardware. If my mac failed i'd have to make an appointment at the apple store, drive 30 minutes there, 30 minutes back, wait for them to fix it, then drive 30 minutes there and 30 minutes back home again.
I had a dell with a bad temperature sensor so i called dell, and they sent a guy over the next day. I didnt even have to leave my couch if i didnt want to.
