Yes, because otherwise you could just buy it a month in advance and get the new one for free, but here's how I think it is working as I just went through it. I owed 12 months still on my 6s, so I had to pay that off so it looks like I had to pay $347 or whatever to upgrade. However, I am getting a new iPhone 7 that my monthly payment is $0 instead of the $27 or whatever I owed I was paying for monthly on my 6s phone. So, while they are getting their money in advance when I pay off the 6s, I am not having to make a monthly payment on the new iPhone 7, so it washes out after 12 months and I have, in effect, paid nothing to upgrade to a new iPhone 7. My brain hurts after spending an hour or so on the phone working through several phones of various vintages, so I think this is correct.

You are right, this is horribly confusing, and you don't want to do it if you have been drinking.

I'm confused by this as well. If I trade in a 128GB 6 Plus for a 256GB 7 Plus, I get a $570 credit applied over 24/months. If I want to upgrade after 12 months, will I lose the 12 monthly credits that weren't applied yet?

Picked up a 42mm Apple Watch series 1 for $228 with tax at Target. After buying my wife a series 2 a while back and seeing her have all the fun on it, I wanted to join the club :). Waiting for 3.1 to finish updating.

I've had my "series 0" for 13 months now and it's been great, though it's gotten super slow, so I took advantage of the Target deal as well. Though I did it the night of the 23rd and did it online, so by Dec 1st, it should arrive. The series 2 is nice, but for me, the GPS and swim proofness of it isn't worth the $100. I mainly wanted speed to improve, and if it is 50% faster than the original, I think I'll be happy with that.

Give it a week and I'm sure you'll be addicted to it as well. :) Who knew Apple was going to make watch tans trendy again. ;)

The apple watch link at B&H isn't good any more, they're out of that deep discounted one.

It stinks there's nothing good on the AW2 anywhere. Even the Kohl's cash (if you can evern get the watch there) is only good for a week or so.

So far the greatest thing is not having to pullout the phone to look at text. Next I'll try my workout log app which has an Apple Watch app to go with it, which I'll need to get on ASAP after yesterday's meal lol.

Yeah for myself I can't justify the Series 2 for the extra $100, plus the fact that the 2 wasn't on sale so the Series 1 is almost 1/2 the price. This is the only thing my other half has that's higher end than mine, I gotta let her have at least that :D

Honestly, Apple ought to do a permanent $500 across-the-board price cut to the Mac Pro line, to acknowledge and compensate for its aging internals. At this point, they're just ruthlessly gouging high-end creative professionals (those who haven't given up and switched to Windows)
Totally agree! They couldn't justify other current price.

On discontinued products, there's no Apple-set price for me to base the "down from" number on, so I do rely on the prices retailers list. On products that Apple still carries, the "down from" number is based on the price that Apple sells it for.

It's always a good idea to research deals on older Macs to make sure they're worthwhile. These are the best Black Friday deals I found for people who want to make a purchase this weekend, but it's true that some of these deals aren't the best deals that have ever existed on these machines.

By the way, for price comparison charts that are easier to digest, check out the Deals roundup. It only has current-generation stock machines, though.

For sure discontinued products are not always bargains and making comparison can be difficult (though one way to judge is to check for comparable refurbished products at Apple).

On everything else, MSRP is the only fixed baseline for comparison, since many retailers discount throughout the year. A Mac with a MSRP of $1,799 selling for $1,599 on Black Friday might well have been offered at that retailer for less the week before, and they could very well be selling them at the same discount for as long as they have stock on hand. This is what happened when I shopped for two iMacs this time last year. Fry's offered Black Friday prices on the models I was looking at, but I didn't have to buy them then. I paid the same price when I bought them in December. Black Friday deals are overrated, is my experience.

In the UK, John Lewis have £100 off of new MacBook Pros (with or without touchbars). They are doing this to price match another Black Friday deal. You can order online, and have in-store pick up.

When you search for the MacBook Pro on their website, you have to specify "MacBook Pro Touch", otherwise the new models don't seem to show up.

It should have been a $500 discount a year ago.

My best advice [coming from a Series 0 owner, soon to be Series 1] is to not load up too many 3rd party apps at once. When I saw that putting just a few apps on took no space at all, I loaded the watch up with a lot - ended up with 5GB free out of the 6GB available [no music or photos on the watch for me]. But not all 3rd party apps are entirely stable - some drain the battery quite a bit [a neat complication that displays one's steps, brings my series 0 to 50% battery after just 3 hours of use!].

So for troubleshooting purposes, load maybe 3 apps at a time per week so you can see if the watch suddenly starts having issues - then you'll know it's one of the 3 loaded.

A recent watchOS 3 update gave Series 1 and 2 owners a *ton* more battery life, so I am looking forward to that! I've also found the Watch forum here on MR to be quite useful.

I think you'll be surprised by how long your iPhone's battery will last now too. :D [because you will be un-pocketing it less and less for text messages and other notices]. Oh! Do look at the Watch app and all the settings - you can *really* customize the kinds of notifications that are sent to the Watch - I spent some quality time tweaking the settings and it has really helped.

Now you can justify a leap to Series 3 in a year or so time ahead of your other half because you're a generation behind her's. ;) [actually, from what i have gathered, the CPU and GPU in the Series 1 & 2 are the same; yours just lacks the brighter display, GPS, and swimproof features - but don't tell her that. ;) ].

First day out with in. Quite pleased with the battery life. Lot of texting including photos and general fooling around with it lol. 65% left. That's a good point on prolonging the phone's battery life.

There is a bit of mystery. After it finished updating to watchOS 3.1, 3 songs from my iTunes library mysteriously got sync'ed over to the watch. Still trying to figure out how to delete it.

The First Gen battery life really is good with Watch OS 3.1. Aside from the GPS, water resistance, S2 processor in The Apple Watch 2, it's essentially the same Watch. Love my Stainless.

That's great to hear! I've only had a handful of situations where the battery drain was a lot lower than a day [usually a rogue complication]. Looks like you might be able to squeeze out 2 full days w/o a charge with every day normal use [i still have days where i fool around with it a lot - playing with new apps and seeing what else i can offload from the phone to the watch].

That is very strange about the iTunes songs. I don't use iTunes on my iPhone, though I have found that songs will show up on my phone when viewing it in iTunes on the Mac [i am old school and still sync my phone via Mac iTunes] and the About screen in settings on the phone - often times the music is some free song promo i got years ago that somehow re-downloads from the cloud. With iOS 10, I "deleted" the Music app from my iPhone, so there's no real way for me to figure out what songs there are, but I'm sure one day it will bug me enough to "undelete" the app and figure out how to delete them! :) I'd look at your purchased song history and any settings that may be setup to auto sync newly [or past] song purchases automatically to all devices.

Target shipped my Series 1 on the 25th...can't wait till it arrives and replace my Series 0. :)
