    http://www.bestmacapps.com/category/app-categories/all-apps/
    Last month I found this site where there is a list of the Best Mac Apps for all categories
    My question is: IS THIS SITE THE BEST ON INTERNET WHICH CONTAINS THE BEST MAC APPS FOR ALL CATEGORIES?, SHOULD I INSTALL THESE APPS? (I know that there are apps which belong to a category maybe useless for somebody, but if this site is reliable I will install the apps which belong to the category I need)

    Let me know if there are better alternatives

    Here are the categories I need:
    - Best Calendar App (according to the site above is Fantastical);
    - Best Audio Editor (according to the site above is Fission);
    - Best Slideshow Software (according to the site above is FotoMagico);
    - Best Web Browser (according to the site above is Google Chrome);
    - Best Web Design Software (according to the site above is Sandvox);
    - Best Backup Software (according to the site above is SuperDuper!);
    - Best Timeline Software (according to the site above is Temporis);
    - Best FTP Client (according to the site above is Transmit);
    - Best Photo Organizer (according to the site above is Picasa);
    - Best PDF Editor (according to the site above is PDFpen);
    - Best Word Processor (according to the site above is Nisus Writer Pro);
    - Best Blog Software (according to the site above is MarsEdit);
    - Best Graphic Design Software (according to the site above is Illustrator);
    - Best Image Editor (according to the site above is Photoshop);
    - Best Photo Editor (according to the site above is Lightroom);
    - Best Video Editing Software (according to the site above is Premiere Pro)

    Other categories I need which are not specified in the site above:
    - Best Archiver/Unarchiver Utility (I do not know which is the best app in its class)

    Ah, just one site, with a bunch of opinions.
    Don't you think it would be a good idea to find out more about who the site belongs to? And, there's also almost no information about how selections are made.

    Sure, there's fairly good choices, and mostly quality software that many Mac users would agree with - but in the end, that site appears to be just one person's opinion. The site talks about "we" a lot, but tells you nothing about who "we" are... Aren't you the slightest bit curious about that?
    I suspect it's just a site with someone randomly choosing apps - for example, the somewhat questionable choice for Chrome as the "best" web browser, when its basic advantage, according to the short info, is speed. The site doesn't offer any information about which version of Chrome is tested, compared to other browsers. (Chrome is NOT known to have a small memory footprint, as the site info suggests) The OTHER software choices might be equally misguided.
    I'm not convinced that you should base your sole choice of "best" Mac apps from the listing on that site.
    Please don't misunderstand - I'm not saying that some of the listed apps aren't good, but simply that site does not give me any confidence about their choices, and I think that you shouldn't use that list as your sole guide.

    I _think_ that asking for a list of "best" apps is, in the end, determined by your needs, and if a particular app actually fills those needs. Some of your categories may only have one or two possibles. Other categories will have a fairly long list, with none actually being "best", except in the eyes of the poster/user.
    One person's "amazing treasure" might be someone else's "POS"
    In other words - if you grab a bunch of apps that is on a list that you found somewhere, there is the potential that you either won't like ANY of them, or they simply don't fit your needs.
    And then, you may return here with the unwarranted opinion that this site is crap. (and likely the reason why your thread has nearly 900 views :D )
    Lists won't decide what works - you do!

    ----------

    Or - you can try all those in that list that you found (plus the good unarchiver named: The Unarchiver ). They may turn out to do what you need.

    Not really, but it is necessary for me to understand what are the best apps for the categories specified above.

    Also, Graphic Design, by the example in your OP seems to mean Vector Based design (ie: Illustrator). Whereas Photoshop/Pixelmator is raster based. But all of them are used for Graphic Design.

    However, I apologize if I was not clear to expose my problem.

    I meant the best applications of their categories (placed below*) from all points of view, regardless of the needs that each may have.

    Maybe someone has misunderstood my purpose: the common good (everyone needs to immediately find the best apps, regardless of his preferences)

    The bolded part above is where you are going to run into issues. There is no 'best app regardless'.

    I listed Aperture as the best photo organizer. That is debatable and severely overkill for MOST people.

    I also listed BBEdit as best web design software. BBEdit is a text editor with no graphical layout capabilities at all. This *may* be great for those that like to code by hand. Others may like to use Coda2 to code by hand, or Dreamweaver, or use a WYSIWYG editor of some of the aforementioned choices.

    There is no right answer. One person can only give their opinion. Lots of people giving their opinion can be used to rate applications in a category against other choices. BUT, the needs of the individual making the decision is what makes it the best software for them.
