Which would you consider to be the best "sky map" application for iOS and why?

Star Walk 2 is very nice, with a rich set of capabilities and is very polished. Some great 3D rendering of objects And only $2.99. Sky Guide is $2.99 like Star Walk 2. Provides more local textual data as opposed to Star Walk taking you to on-line references (but it also has embedded links). Doesn't have the nice rendering of Star Walk.

Redshift is also very good but pricier at $9.99. Neat fly-to capabilities with good graphics.

Luminos - excellent but pricier yet at $14.99. Again, neat fly-to capabilities with good graphics. A lot of support for serious use with astro viewing gear.

I have all four of these and I'd say that for general usage that Star Walk 2 is the best because of capabilities and low price.

Well on Android i had GoogleSkyMap and i guess i was contempt. It was free and easy to get a view of things.

What's the difference between Star Walk 2 - Guide to the Night Sky to Watch Stars, Planets, Meteor Showers & Constellations and Star Walk - The Astronomy Guide to View Stars, Planets & Night Sky Map, both are made by Vito Technology, though Star Walk 2 has IAP.

Star Walk 2 is the "next generation" of the original Star Walk:

(note that both of these articles are from 2014 when Star Walk 2 was introduced and the app has been updated since)

If you're looking for a free app, then check out Sky View or Star Chart.

Do both apps Star Walk and Star Walk 2 offer similar features or they have anything unique from the other? Both apps are updated. If you have one then do you still need the other?

I don't have the original Star Walk, just Star Walk 2. If you look at the expanded descriptions of each, it appears that Star Walk 2 does provide more functionality, a different interface, and more info if you purchase the in-app add-ons (I did):
