I've touched the cup as well, but to me the best thing this millennium so far would be the iPod touch/iPhone and Dan Marino inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The new millennium began in 2001.
As for me, I think the best thing that has happened since the new millennium is the expansion of gay rights. It's hard to believe that just 7 years ago no nation on Earth recognized same-sex marriage, and now there are 6 nations and 2 US states which recognize it. Nicely done I'd say.

This is a big relief, with both W leaving and Obama coming in a few days ago. Even McCain coming in would be a vast improvement over business as usual Bush Jr. and company.
But I think we are blessed with a young, forward thinking leader and even though I voted Green Party, I think the Democratic party has been revitalized to the energy it had in the 1993-2001 Clinton presidency.
With every 10 years a recession and every 25 or 30 years a depression or mini-depression, we should hope there is a strong leader there when those predictable lag times hit.
On a lighter note, I think for Apple the iPod line has been the best millennium product and perhaps the best and furthest reaching product in that company's history. The moniker iPod has become so prevalent that I have seen people call non-Apple MP3 players as their "iPod". It's as successful as the Kleenex brand overtaking the term "facial tissue". A hundred years from now, I am convinced Apple Inc, if looking back on their great invention, will most be remembered for the iPod.
