I still dont understand how developers that already worked on arm versions for the mac for years and years, cannot be ready for the arm windows version and still deliver sub par, and trash experience
And still, there is arm windows since RT..

I listened the video while driving the car and it’s hilarious! 😝

Yes, I have had the same experience with the AMD Thinkpad I've used, silent unless multiple cores are being used at 100%.

Reviews suggest the P16s is similar.

The macbook can be silent running high CPU and GPU combined if you select low power mode, which doesn’t impact performance anywhere near as much as on the PC laptops.

All I use parallels for is Windows network administration, I give the VM 16 GB and it is plenty for what I do. I'm on a machine with 64 GB.

In a pinch 8GB is "enough" it depends on what you need to do inside of windows.

If you need to do 3d work inside the Windows VM - probably not suitable.

What's your use case?
I tested Parallel's lifetime-version with 8 GB and Pro version. I have to say that 8 GB ram is not enough in my case, and I/O limitation is making Windows slow. So I have to pay a hundred in a year to get what I want.

Now I run Windows with 32 GB ram and it seems that less would be enough in my case. Mac has 10 GB free ram now.

Another case is finding key combinations not to get on the MacOS side constantly. (I use cmd/ctrl+ tab a-lot)

I am still in the middle of what to do. Thanks to Trump I am thinking also if the prices will explode and I should invest in a new Mac immediately.

Parallels Pro (Win11, 32GB) on M1 Macbook Pro Mac 16, 64GB

I'm in real need of a Windows laptop that’s a true powerhouse. I've been searching for the best possible alternative to the MacBook Pro M4 Max, but it feels like mission impossible.

Here are some interesting Windows laptops I've come across:
  • Dell XPS 16 OLED
    • RAM is limited to 32GB in the EU (except the UK)... seriously, why?
  • ThinkPad P16 Gen 2
    • Supports up to 198GB RAM, 8TB SSD (RAID), and an Nvidia RTX 5000 Ada Mobile GPU, Oled.
    • However, it suffers from overheating, crashes, and a keyboard that heats up uncomfortably.
  • HP ZBook Fury
    • 128 GB RAM, 16TB SSD
    • Powerful but plagued by fan noise and overheating issues.
I’m looking for a silent powerhouse with plenty of memory and an OLED display. Any suggestions?
Have a Lenovo P1 Gen 7 for work, heavy Autodesk CAD work and editing architectural images from a GFX100, 100mp files. Decent spec…Intel 155h, 64gb lpcaml2, 2x 4tb 990 pros, RTx4060.. Don’t quite recommend it tho… it’s a low power chip and files too low.. The older Gen 6 was better but a lot heavier. Wait and see what the Ultra 2 refresh has in stock. Eg: the HX chips. Has been a lot of teething issues. The only one released to date will be the MSI Titan series. They look insanely heavy. Otherwise clearance Lenovo Legions with 4070 upwards. There is a cheap brand here in Australia called Predator. Not sure on reliability of the motherboard. Lenovo are due for refresh around July.

The same apps are running on the background.

So... If I buy A P16s G2, I will get a same level computer as my M1.

I placed an order for the P16s G2 (AMD). I’ll report back when it arrives and share my thoughts about it.

Nobody cared about Windows RT because Microsoft didn't commit to it as a non-trash platform (their tier 1 first party products were crap). the only way to get it was with eMMC storage, limited memory, slow cpu and gpu trash tier screens, etc.

so it was ignored.

The P16s Gen 2 just arrived.

If you’re deaf, then great — you’ve got yourself a nice Windows machine. But the constantly spinning fan is already driving me crazy. I’ve got two monitors connected, so it must be the (integrated) graphics card heating up… and also charging the battery.

The plastic chassis — I have to say, I really miss the feel of metal under my hands.

The OLED screen is definitely nicer than the M1 display. Something Apple should take notes on.

All in all, it’s not a bad machine, but I already know where I’ll invest next time..

macOS excel is very much less performant than windows excel.

MacOS Excel is so bad that I wouldn't doubt it for a second if you told me it was cryptojacking my computer. It has gotten better, but so often in the past if my computer was running slow I would check to see if I left Excel open and the answer was almost always yes.

It’s stunning just how bad Excel on a Mac is considering that the Libre Office spreadsheets program works flawlessly and never gives me any troubles.
