public beta 3, and: mail doesn't download for me (others report this as well). safari has crashed a few times. and my macbook has kernel panicked... twice.

just observing that betas are never a straight line to a 'perfect' moment, but an up-&-down ride, to an official OS release...& more betas.

i mention this for all those who say absurd things like 'always wait for the 3rd beta', or 'apple generally has things under control by beta 5'. it's never that simple (but always an adventure). 🏂

So Far Unknown.jpeg. Monterey has not produced any anomalies for me through all three betas on my NcMP.

For me this beta cycle has been the most trouble free since Apple introduced the public beta program. I do have some issues for which I have filed feedback, but no real showstoppers.

I find it amusing when people give up so early. I never turn back.

Monterey Beta 3 improved some of the Safari issues, and the TV app sometimes quitting unexpectedly for me from Beta 2. Not that much trouble so far with it on a M1 Mac.

beta 2 ran better for me than 3. the apple mail issue is annoying (but manageable), and my macbook has kernel panicked 3 times in 3 days. my imac, though, has been stable (and that's my logic/final cut machine).

anyway, i like exploring the betas, find workarounds sometimes, attempt patience when needed, and life goes on.

Id still be running it if it weren't for the fact that it kept shutting off my internet at random points. Wasn't sure if it was Private Relay interacting with my VPN or what, but even with PR and my VPN turned off I would be up and running just fine then all of a sudden "You are not connected to the internet" even though I was still connected to my network. I couldn't even get to my router on the local network so whatever it was was shutting down all my traffic period. For all I know it could have been an issue with Little Snitch but I decided to just go back to Big Sur until its released. I have a couple of critical plugins for my audio setup that don't work in Monterey so Ill have to wait for those to get updated this time, cant open any of my projects without them haha.

probably as you suspect (about the internet). fwiw, ALL my plugins (& there are a lot) work in logic pro (to my happy surprise)...

Yeah just about everything in Logic and even Ableton Live was good to go. I had two of my PSP plugins that need to be updated (they crash validation in Logic and flat out crash Ableton altogether), but those happen to be my go to spring reverb and my 1176 style comp and I use those on literally every project of mine, so I couldnt get a single Ableton project to actually open for me (crashed as soon as it loaded the plugins). New projects were running great surprisingly! Audiofinder yet again didnt launch either (needed an update for Big Sur too), and lately the dev seems to have dropped off the face of the earth so I have a feeling its time to find ANOTHER sampler manager/editor app again, but at least I got a few months to get that sorted out before the release.

I was really shocked my MOTU 828X was still running. I had an issue with their brand new Big Sur driver that was just released last month, it wouldnt load the kext to save its life, but it worked if I manually loaded it. For some reason after reinstalling it 4 or 5 times, the last time stuck and it works, surprisingly it was still up and running in Monterey too! The whole OS was alot speedier than Big Sur was, it felt great the one night I ran it, but I got sick of having to reboot constantly to get the network up. Who knows, those plugins may work in the new beta too, I think we had a few with the Big Sur that didnt show up but 'fixed' themselves in a later beta update..

i was genuinely amazed that every single 3rd-party plugin i use worked in logic on beta 1; this is so different from the early big sur betas, where 30% of those plugins wouldn't load; guess apple was prepared this time.

still, it's inevitable that some things will not work; i've pretty-much learned to adapt (but there's often a lot of crying & screaming happening until i do). 🤣
