When you can go to uni, go back to Japan and GTFO. My friend from Texas says Austin is the place to be in Texas. I think Tokyo is fantastic, although I'm the type of person who likes things like public transport, fantastic food, great shopping, etc.

Austin is where all the hippies without jobs go.

Well I'm from Houston, but I have family that lives in Dallas. Its not that bad a place. It's a big city, lots of stuff to do. Maybe not as many as Tokyo, but enough to keep someone busy. Really, the part of Dallas that your moving to is also going to change the type of people your going to meet, just like any city. The weather is ok up there. It will snow every now and then when it gets really cold, but probably won't stick around long. Durring the summer is can get pretty hot, but your in for really nice springs and falls.

Dallas isnt all country and cowboys u know. the city is pretty great. its like a little new york with livable conditions.

Hey YoYo,

I thought I would check in and see how you are settling in. What's up? Any major likes or dislikes so far? Have you done some local stuff yet to get a better feel for the area? Last week was Grapefest in Grapevine, TX which is not too far from you. Today is the opening of the State Fair. Let us know how your doing?

Hey YoYo,

Not like NY at all, not even a little bit. Don't get me wrong, last weekend was Fall Fair where I live, and in a week is the Apple Festival. Both of which I find very very enjoyable. Its just not NY. Not even a tiny bit. Well, OK - we had a hot dog cart at the fall fair. :D

I moved to Texas from Massachusetts when I was 14 and that was 19 years ago and I still haven't moved out of this state although I keep wanting too.

Since I actually live in the Dallas area, I can give people a real idea what it is like. Dallas is a large metropolis, but most of it is suburbs. Southlake is one of the wealthier suburbs and has a good public school system. They also have a very good high school football team. Sports is big in the Dallas area considering that we have a professional football team (Cowboys), basketball (Mavericks), baseball (Rangers), hockey (Stars) and soccer.

To really enjoy Dallas, you really need money since shopping and eating out are the biggest things to do. There's not much in terms of nice scenery and Austin is better if you want to do outdoor activities. The Asian area are on the east side in Garland and Richardson, although the Asian food in Houston is better.

Yes, you will see people wearing cowboy hats occasionally and even horses, but you will see more people in designer clothes and driving luxury cars. Dallas is one of the wealthiest city in the US.

So welcome to Texas and the Dallas area Yoyo. You may or may not like living here, but your life is what you make out of it.

By the way, you have to go to the Texas State Fair. It is an experience.
