UCLA had a good day today. In addition to the mostly-unexpected football victory, their men's soccer team upset Virginia to make it to the finals tomorrow. If they win that match, they will reach an unprecedented milestone: the first university to reach 100 NCAA national championships across all team sports.
Followup: UC Santa Barbara won the NCAA men's soccer championship game, so UCLA will have to wait for another day to reach their 100th team championship.

Congratulations to the Gauchos!

This is good reason why we need a three-game playoff very soon. Don't be surprised that Fox (which has broadcast rights to every BCS game except the Rose Bowl) will force the NCAA to adopt a three-game playoff where the semfinal pits BCS #1 versus #4 in one game and #2 versus #3 in the other game.

Right now, the huge question is can Florida put away Arkansas decisively in the SEC Championship game. If Florida barely beats Arkansas you will see an Ohio State versus Michigan rematch.

I had thought about this as well, but it wouldn't work. You'd have the same situation as you do now. Who deserves to be #4? You'd get 3 or 4 11-1, 10-2 teams complaining they should be #4! If it's going playoffs it have to go playoffs all the way. Perhaps only the conference champions. But then you'd have teams like Notre Dame that have no conference...

Oh, and Go Buckeyes!!!

The proper solution is obvious: football games with more than 2 teams. The championship game should be a "three-half" game, with the BCS #2 and #3 teams playing the first half, the #1 and #4 teams playing the second half, and the winners of those halves playing the third half!

It'll take only a minor adjustment to the rules, and that game will certainly keep all those "we should have been #2, not #3" gripes to a minimum.

Was at both of the games you mentioned. UCLA looked GREAT on Saturday, and UCSB looked terrible, despite winning. They flip-flopped on Sunday.

I think I like this. :D It's less confusing.
P.S. Florida edges Michigan .944 to .934 to play Ohio St. for all the marbles. Are BCS's days numbered?
