You guys are like talking to my kids

What part of my previous posts are you not getting? It's black anodized aluminum that has a very dark blueish tint in direct light. Not silver at all.

In the hands on videos reporters said that it's basically a matte type finish. I would imagine that the texture is going to look a bit different with bright lights at certain angles, like press taking flash photographs.

Hasn't anyone bothered to check the Apple site and see for themselves? It's right there on the front page.

well, yeah. the pic I posted on the left is clearly from the apple website. But those images are almost entirely rendered/photoshoped. I don't care how that looks. The one on the right is a real life picture taken of a real life iPhone 5 from a regular person. Unaltered.

Yeah, I do speculate in my OP that it could be due to flash, but I'm surprised at how much the color changes. For the record, I prefer the more black version. Looks very sleek.

I can tell you have great parenting skills. Nothing makes a child love you like a condescending attitude.

Give up. I've heard of "easily distracted by shiny objects" but this is more like "easily confused by shiny objects." lol

This is also correct. It is very much a matte finish.

Ok so here's what I was really trying to get at in my post. Yes I understand that light reflecting in different ways will make it look different. But in average, every day lighting what will it really look like? I'm generally surrounded by light, will I need to go into a dimly lit room, with indirect light to get the "black" look?

I think you need to get your eyes checked sir if you think that this iPhone back looks blue.... and not silver?? It's very silver.

Yeah, you can tell particularly well from this image. Especially in the :apple:. I think I will really like the matte finish.

Fair enough. I believe that photo is a demonstration of the flash effect people here are referencing.

To directly answer your question - when holding it in your hand in direct sunlight, it appears matte black with a blueish tint.

Flash or not, we've gotten leaks depicting different combinations of colors that could've been early prototypes or just mixing of the white and black iPhone parts including:

Black iPhone with white iPhone's untinted stainless steel band (and vice versa)
White iPhone with black top and bottom glass back
Black iPhone with solid black back rather than the two tone

I have a black i4 and was thinking of getting white, but that stealth black color is just awesome.

I was thinking the same, as the white still has the polished trim of the 4 and 4s this black 5 is giving us more stealth action and sets it slightly appart from all previous phones..This 5 is the best looking phone ever...

Its dark grey. It looks like because of the flash in those pictures.

Take a look at some of the hands-on videos and pictures posted by weblogs yesterday. That should give you the best idea of the color as the initial parts leaks may be early samples and the Apple ones are marketing photos wich may be adjusted or have been taken with unrealistic lighting.

This thread has ruined the black decision for me. I will buy black and return if I like white better

if you look at the videos from yesterday of the hands on episodes you can see that the black one looks pretty much all black. Really sweet looking I think.

So it seems like there are a lot of contradictory photos about exactly what the "slate" anodized aluminum back looks like. I was expecting it to look more black, but a lot of photos show a more silver look... is that due to a flash? Here's a couple of pics.

Edit: to clear up the confusion. The photo on the right is taken from media hands on time. It's the real iPhone 5. Go take a look for yourself http://www.anandtech.com/Gallery/Album/2298#18

I thought they would release 3 iPhones.. Black, "Gray", White.
