I recently updated my iPhone 7 to xs max and i’m going to sell it and buy either an older iPhone or samsung. Firstly when using flash on the camera people’s eyes turn red or white or blurry like on the photi with this thread.
Secondly the fron camera is zooming so much and the quality is so bad! Neither of these things happen on my old iphone.
so my question is: am I the only one
Experiencing this with the camera?

For such an expensive phone this is so crazy i
Actually might give up iPhone completely

That's your prerogative. Maybe you'll be happier with a Samsung phone. But maybe you're taking flash photos just inches away from your face. That's too close. As for zooming, that's entirely on you. Don't zoom so much.

Photography is an art form, and it takes some practice to become even a little bit skilled. I certainly am not. But consider what a pro can get versus what an ordinary person can get using the same equipment. Apple has some tips for better using the camera: https://www.apple.com/iphone/photography-how-to/

As for photos shot on iPhone, check out these: https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2019/02/apple-highlights-best-photos-shot-on-iphone-around-the-world/

There is a 55 page thread full of people raving over the camera and providing examples of it’s capabilities. I know it appears rude of me to assume, but perhaps there are adjustments you can make to how you are using the cameras? It’s difficult for me to find a single way the camera of the 7 is superior to that of my Max.

No the camera on the XS is amazing, do u use autofocus? Turn of the flash If u have good light, i always keep it off and If the light aint good enough i dont even bother to take a picture, i tried it all, i have a great Canon camera and i must say i love the iPhones camera all the way back to iPhone 6, i also have samsung phones, they have a great camera but it add to much colour, iPhone is frukt remarkable, so you are doing something wrong when u are taking ur pictures

The shiny glimmer in people's eyes when using the flash is their retina reflecting the flash back at the camera. Any camera with a flash source a few millimeters away from the lens will do this. It's physics. Depending on how bright the flash is, the reflection in the eyes can be red (red eye) or white. Coyotes reflect blue.

I've been really happy with the XS Max camera, particularly when shooting RAW with Halide.
