Confident these recent leaks by Prosser are the next MBA. When we will see them released, I do not know. At the earliest I'd guess this fall sometime.

Been seeing some debate on YouTube and this forum about the naming. People are speculating they will be called just 'MacBook', etc. I don't see any chance of that happening.

In addition to the new colors, the big selling point will be an all new thinness and lightness. The MBA is very close in weight to the MBP. I expect these new machines to more resemble the LG Gram (which only weighs 2.16 lbs. in the 13.3" variety). If the new machines are super light, then it makes complete sense to call them MBA. It will finally deserve the 'Air' title once again.

The MacBook was its own laptop category due to the 12" screen/weight. And the name itself always struck me as odd. You've got this super small and light machine in your lineup and you just call it 'MacBook'. The 12" laptop category is niche and I believe most consumers would prefer a super light 13.3" laptop instead.

The white bezels continues this new trend for Apple to distinguish between the consumer devices (new MBA and 24" iMac) vs the more prosumer ones (MBP and 27" iMac update).

IMO, all of Apple's products are so thin and light compared to when the MBA first was released, I don't think "Air" has much meaning anymore. I think it should just be MacBook and MacBook Pro like before at this point (i.e rename the MBA to MB). I don't think anyone needs to be tempted by a "thin" sounding name, because it's just the norm now and what is expected.

So given that line of thinking would it then just be iPad and iPad Pro? No iPad Air.

I feel the Air moniker is more important than just thinness and lightness. Similar the the iPad Air the moniker denotes thin, light and HIGH speced devices albeit lower speced than the Pro line.

With that being said there is definitely room for a Macbook, Macbbok Air and Macbook Pro line similar to an iPad, iPad Air and iPad Pro.

It would be incredibly unwise for Apple to revert to Macbook and Macbook Pro. The sweetspot to my mind in relation to product depth is ultimately 3 in the case of tablets and notebooks for Apple. If I were them I would go for the macbook, macbook air and macbook pro to drive interest and sales right across the notebook product line category. But hey that's just me.....

Apple should ditch the "Air" moniker from the MacBook Air and also make the iPad a mix between the standard model and the Air, starting at $499.

Actually, I'd be all for them sticking with just iPad and iPad pro and dropping the Air. As for Macs, back when the MacBook Air was introduced, it was radically different than the MacBook was. Today it's not. Just seems silly to me to keep the "Air" moniker. Consumers are not going to lose interest at all as long as they have at least 1 consumer device and 1 pro device.

If they make the color MBA radically thinner and lighter, then it does make sense to keep the name.

In my opinion, it makes little sense to have a product called the MacBook Air and a product called the MacBook Pro when there is no MacBook product. The MacBook name should be the foundation product and the MBA and MBP are offshoots of the foundation.

Macbook - regular laptop with “normal“ size and features and ports.
Air - much thinner than regular one, costs premium, looks ”more stylish”, but might lack ports or features of regular one.
Pro - more powerful and with “more” of eveyrthing, focusing on usability and productivity more than regular one, let alone Air.

I really don’t think it matters honestly. You have the Air which is the light and portable machine. And the Pro for more professional usage. I don’t see the need for an actual MacBook name in the lineup.

I wonder if you could send get a photo of that design and find someone that makes MacBook stickers and have them make you a custom printed sticker
