Note that this and HKC M9 Pro both claim DisplayHDR 1400 certification. So these are a different backlight from that in the LG and the Gigabyte.

LG just presented their first RGB stripe 27 inch 5K OLED (demo model). Seems like the end game for 5K except for one small thing...still 250 nits full screen brightness.
So for anyone working in moderate to brightly lit environments I wouldn't hold my breath for a usable OLED anytime soon.

I’m usually the first to question people’s desire for eye burning brightness but even I think that’s pretty dark
Great that more options are coming
Consumer reviews in the LG are really not great
Hard to tell if it’s case of only a few people having the same issues complaining or they are all not great

I think brightness needs are often overstated. This LG RGB Stripe OLED for their dual-purpose monitors seems geared toward gamers and home use rather than designers, photographers, or video editors. Especially with the low 250 nit.

I am sure LG will tweak and modify for various resolutions.

The majority of good reviews are from 'incentivized' reviewers. I give incentivized reviewers as much credence as I do Amazon reviewers. Essentially zero trust. The non-incentivized reviews are less than stellar in many cases.

I would say the opposite. Video editors can work in a dim studio environment, whereas home users may have their monitor sitting next to a window. 250 nits just isn't enough.
Even with those, you're usually at the mercy of subjective opinions. Take the example of matte vs. glossy coatings. Many editors simply don't understand why more and more users prefer glossy monitors, because the testers and editors at well-known websites usually base their assessments on outdated working conditions. The German monitor “expert” site "Prad.de" is a case in point.

The product description will tell me if it’s glossy or matte
And I 1) prefer matte 2) absolutely require it where my monitor is

So ... HKC has updated its roadmap and it looks like the M9 Pro (with Mini LED and specs similar to the MSI) is defunct -- at Computex, the 4K RGB Mini LED is now in two sizes, 27" and 31.4" with new names, 天啓27U165D (IPS panel) and 天啓32U165VD (VA panel), and the 27" M9 Pro has been replaced by the 神盾27H180 -- without Mini LED and specs (and price) similar to the low-end MSI. WikiPost has been updated to reflect this.
[The Chinese series names are fun, and unlike Geekon (which sometimes makes a mess of it), they don't try to provide English versions of them. The 5K is 神盾 which means something like "Spirit Shield" -- the RGB Mini LED series gets 天啓 which is a variant for 天啟/天启 which usually translates as "Oracle" with a literal meaning of something like "an opening to heaven."]

Same here, I don't think it's objectively true more and more people prefer glossy.
I want less glare distrcting me from working ona monitor. If you can make a glossy screen with zero glare, I will buy it, as of now some glossy coatings are better than others.
The nanotexture on the MBP is sublime
Stuck in no shipping hell this monitor. It was due two days ago and hasn't even shipped yet. Samsung said I just have to wait.

So I got this monitor today (Samsung G8 5K), to be the guinea pig so to speak.
Overall impressions are mostly negative I'm sorry to say. The brightness is poor, it says 300 nits but I would say that's generous. The build quality feels cheap although it does have a tilt, height and rotate that works well. The plastic is cheap however and the lack of power delivery really makes this monitor a no-starter for laptop users (both mac and windows). The power plug has no ground so that is....interesting. I'm sure there's a built in protection somewhere but it's jarring for a casual like me.
The matte coating is reasonably aggressive, certainly seems worse than my Asus 6K I have upstairs but that may be the poor brightness also contributing.
On the upside it does 5k/120 on my MB Air with no problems right out the box. The color profile defaults to the Samsung one which is atrocious and a vivid assault on your eyeballs, so I changed that quickly to Display P3 which looks better. The panel is uniform with its brightness so that's good, albeit not bright enough as I already stated.
Anyway, there are better monitors to be had IMO. Just my 2 cents.

Yes I will. The brightness is just poor, unacceptably so.

Is there actually reviews (even short ones) yet?
I remember people complained about a glitch where half the screen wasn't matching the other half but I believe they fixed it with a software update

it does seem the half screen glitch was fixed with firmware but there's been some other complaints
interesting comparison of BenQ glossy to ASD. The 4th section is most interesting. Change to English audio track.
Problems: drop off in brightness along edges (not vignetting), gloss coating feels "post processed" rather than natural, plastic case quality
But he does go on to recommend the BenQ over the ASD if you do a lot of video editing as the 2000:1 contrast is better than the ASD's 1000:1.

By the way, if anyone wants to jump into the world of 5K displays and doesn't need more than 60 Hz, these 2 options are worth considering:

The late 2015 iMac 5K has the exact same brightness/contrast/wide gamut panel and world's best anti-reflection coating as later iMacs, and people are literally giving these away or they're on ebay for $100. I got mine for free. I use it daily running Sequoia with OCLP. This is higher quality than most of the displays on page 1!

Just get a 1st gen Studio Display second-hand. These are only a little bit more expensive, and will only come down in price as time goes on.
