i say these all interchngeably but listed in decending order in frequency used

1) Leopard or tiger or whatever the machine is running
2) os ex
3) os ten
4) "the mac" I say this like "im gonna load up "the mac" on my machine later" etc

i dont think its a big deal at all how you refer to the os lol

Look at it in reverse. Then saying OS "Ex" is like calling System 9...System "Enn Eye Enn Eee".

you mean os 9= os ix = os eye ex lol

you mean os 9= os ix = os eye ex lol

but it's not OS IV, it's clearly OS 9 and there is no ambiguity in how that is pronounced. OS X on the other hand really doesn't refer to the 10th version anymore. If it did we would be running OS 15 now. They are stuck at OS X more due to the ties to BSD then any heritage from OS 9.

But still Apple says it's OS 10 so it's OS 10, but more by mandate then logic.

I agree, the crap has really been beaten out of this poor horse. Vultures
are beginning to circle. OS used to stand for Operating System, but
now I think it might just stand for, "Oh Shucks, I just said X again!!!"

N:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:!

See what you made me do? :p

Was that really called for?

Umm, I say "ex." It may be because I only became a Mac user with OS EX, and am not bound to the series of numbers; i.e. 7,8,9. Logically, to users of pre-os x software, they would call os x "OS Ten." To everybody else (users like me) we call it "OS EX."

Stick that in your pipe and smoke it. lol :apple:

Wow ya .... This is even an issue?

Oh Ess Ten, as in the follow-up to Oh Ess Nine .... What's everyone else been calling it all this time?

double-u
ten
why
zee

nah. It's been awhile since kindergarden, but I'm pretty sure that's pronounced 'ex'.

Oh come on, I find this so funny it hurts I laugh so much. That somebody gives a crap how someone else pronounces the name of an OS just cracks me up.

You got that right "Sale-Tie Zah" -- that's how it's pronounced, right?

EDIT: I can't believe this thread has over CXCI posts!

yeah, I find that funny too. But it's a bad comparison anyway. I might be offended if someone intentionally pronounced my name wrong, but if I get this upset that someone calls the name of some random thing wrong then I expect people to find my angst amusing.

Come on, now. It's Saul-ties-uu.
:D

Roman numerals are random?

Don't get me wrong, I don't care what Joe Blow calls anything. But the OS that Apple currently makes is called (aka pronounced) "Oh Ess Ten", which is spelled "OS X"

No, The OS that Apple sells is the "random" thing I'm referring to. It is not part of your "being" like your name is. It's the name of a random thing. Like if you got mad at me for calling my car a "Toy Yoda". It doesn't effect you personally. To get upset about it is amusing.

Intentionally calling you by the wrong name is not random. It's a direct attack on you. Someone calling some random object by a name you don't like is not worthy of your angst.

Angst? You're reading much too far into this, my friend.

Thread is asking "The Correct Pronounciation of Mac OS X", to which the answer is "Oh Ess Ten".

No big deal.

LOL I'm only reading the posts in this thread where peoples heads are going to explode if someone says it wrong. Which, I find endlessly amusing.

and the correct pronounciation for the New York Knicks is the New York Knickerbockers

I'll call them the Knicks lol and ill call osx, os ex

Your reasoning makes no sense but whatever... Way to be a revolutionary! A free mind!! Why be like everybody else and call it what it's MEANT to be called? YAY.... not.

LOL what are people going to do when Apple's gonna come out with OS XI??!? Hmm... sounds like the title of a new thread!! ermh..
