My 1st gen iPad gave up the ghost. Wouldn't "charge" and the screen only repeated the "empty battery/plug it in" screen. Plugging it in didn't change anything. Trying two different iPad chargers, & several different cords didn't work either. I just couldn't bring myself to tossing it, so I set it aside.

Several MONTHS later, by 7 y.o. Son, suffering from Temple Run withdrawals, pulled it out, pressed the on/off button and...IT"S A MIRACLE! It started up like nothing had happened. The battery was at 100%, and it worked fine for two days.

On the third day it quit. Acted same as before. DOA. Still didn't have the heart to dump it, so away it went.

Then yesterday I noticed it and thought...what the hell, let's see if it comes around. And once again it fired up & displayed 100% for the battery.

Used it last night & this morning, battery % went down at an expected rate. It even took a charge to bring it from 46% back to 100%.

Experience says it's only a matter of time before it "goes silent" again.

So has anyone experienced this?

Anyone have a insight on "fixing" this?

Your post says Resolved, so I'm wondering if that's because you now know why your iPad 1 was doing this. I have an iPhone 1, knock wood :), so particularly curious about this. --Although it's nice to know the iPad 1 has Terminator endurance.

Auuuggghhhhh...dang. Really sorry to hear that!

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread, I hope someone has an idea. How much does it cost to have Apple replace the battery?
