I have been looking for a good backup solution, both for my local network as well as remote/offsite backup (I'm not a fan of Time Machine). I'm not looking for recommendations as such (although they are welcome) as the net abounds with reviews and recommendations. What I am concerned with is how well OSX backup tools/services are preserving metadata. (Some general background information here: (http://blog.plasticsfuture.org/2006/04/23/mac-backup-software-harmful/). There used to be a tool, backup-bouncer (https://github.com/n8gray/Backup-Bouncer), that tested a backup for metadata completeness (I say "used to be" because it hasn't been updated in 4 years). Backup companies/services/reviews used to speak to how many of the backup-bouncer tests were passed. However, there seems to be little attention (that I can find) paid to this issue lately. My questions:

Is there an (updated) way to test a backup produced by a product/service that will check for completeness of metadata preservation in a backup? How to be assured that a backup program/service (such as Arq) preserves all metadata in it's backup?

TIA!

The Arq dev. says it passes all the Backup Bouncer tests. If you have questions about his test methodology, you should shoot him an email. I have found the dev. to be very responsive the couple times I had questions.

Thanks, will do. But, I doubt that those test are still valid, as they haven't been updated in over 4 years.
You mean the test app? I don't think anything has changed in four years as far a meta data etc, so I think it would still be valid.
