'Just about a bit more functionality' includes:

• On-board storage
• On-board data processing
• Gyro tech
• Bone-conduction
• Heart rate monitoring
• Step counting

... all in a device the size of the tip of your thumb.

You can use the Dash Pro earphones independently so you could have only one in playing music.

Please link me to a source that would suggest AirPods have had anywhere near this scale of impact - I am genuinely interested.
And you could have added:
- acceptance, built-in to the design, that some people's ear canals do not fit Apple's specifications.

None of the above are of any use for day to day , minute to minute use. ! The only argument if any is that not everyone has an auricle that has the space for the AirPod to stay in, for them the only option is the external auditory meatus where Bragi dash fits in.
BTW AirPods are going to make more money for apple than any other device including the Apple Watch.

Wait so you’re saying heart rate monitoring and step counting are not day to to say uses? I guess Apple screwed the pooch on that with the Apple Watch!

If airpods looked like Bragi Dash, I would have bought them already. Conversely, if Dash worked like airpods, I'd have bought them. Really not sure what market research Apple has done that tells them people want these molded plastic ear pieces. Apple made one "decent" pair of headphones, then stopped making them. It just goes to show how well the airpods work that people are willing to deal with the awful fit. 31W6DJ6OEjL._SL500_AC_SS350_.jpg

Wish they came in black and had multiple silicone tips for customized comfort. Added cost would be what, like 15? 25? cents to Apple...

Sounds like you want canal phones, not ear phones. If so, I highly recommend Etymotic ER4Ps or the newer ones. Yes they're expensive but they sound incredible.

They fit my ears perfectly. in fact, the AirPods fit my ears better than the standard wired pods. Maybe because they don't have a wire weighing them down? I hate to use the word but they really are kind of magical.
