The Disk Was Not Ejected Properly??

    You just unplugged it from the computer. Mac OS X wants you to eject the drive before unplugging it.

    Finder > Preferences > General > Show these items on the Desktop:

    no the message appeared when i plugged in my external drive for the first time in a few weeks.

    all the boxes are checked off, all my other external drives appear on the desktop

    Exactly. Mac OS X wants you to eject the drive before unplugging it. Because you didn't eject it the last time you unplugged it, you'll get that message when you plug it in.

    That's impossible. When you plug in a drive, it's not being ejected. When you unplug it, it is.

    It sounds like there may be a problem with the drive, if it's not being properly detected. What format is the drive? You may want to check the drive with Disk Utility.

    the message pops up, but the external drive does not.

    the drive does not show on the desktop.

    The error message appears then nothing happens.
    Disk utility does not list the drive

    ok, so my hard drive is still doing the same error, even after i replaced the external case.

    in disk utility, what do i do, to fix the drive?
