I was seeing the same issues yesterday. For me it was happening when my phone was unlocked and I was just on the springboard. I also have intelliscreenX installed. I was not getting the double tone when my phone was locked with intelliscreen receiving the texts. After I messed around with selected the alert tone I wanted and a respring, the error went away. I am waiting to see if it comes back on its on like some users are experiencing. I hope it’s just a quick respring fix and be done with it.

Exact same thing here. But it only happens to me when I get a text with using ISX on the Springboard. Kind of annoying... But I can live with it.

I've just run into this problem now and I've had my iPhone 4S since launch day. I had just jailbroken my iPhone a few days ago and everything was working as normal till today.

Do you have LockInfo installed?

I jailbroke my friend's 4S and he started having this problem and he has lockinfo AND bitesms. This is a known issue for 4S's in the apple forums, not related to jailbreaking. I had him do the following and it worked:

Turn off the vibrate option(2 options above text tone) under Settings>Sounds

Note: his vibrate still worked after that too.

Check this: it will work

1)Turn iMessage off in settings
2)Power off your phone and then turn it on.
3)Send a txt to yourself, and press the home button immediately.
4)Go into settings, turn on iMessage.
5)Send a txt to yourself again, should be fixed.

A solution to try.

I have tracked down the cause of this problem I also have had for a few weeks, this worked for me, I hope it does for you also.
I tracked the fault down to the phones vibrate function (not the silent one), turning vibrate off cleared the fault and turning back on returned the fault.
What I did was close all running programs, go to settings, sounds and turn vibrate off, exit menu and turn the phone off, wait a while, turn back on and turn vibrate back on, test with a message and all is ok again, singe alert tone.

Hope this helps.

I found a tweak from the insanelyi repo called doubleSMStoneremover.

Seems to work for me so far, I have my phone on silent a lot of the time but it also seems to have stopped the double vibrate that came with the double tone problem.

I have noticed one possible side effect though, (not confirmed - reason below) that when sending an SMS, the little "upsweep" outgoing tone has now changed to the "downsweep" tone normally heard when a reply comes back while still in the messaging app.

I removed the tweak, resprung and the double SMS tone came back but the upsweep/downsweep problem remained, and I haven't investigated further. I reinstalled the tweak though.

Edit: investigated further. Put phone in safe mode and the upsweep/downsweep remains. So I have two theories:

1. The basic files injected for the jailbreak causes this.
2. Apple swapped the tones at some point, and I have only just noticed.

Anyone know?

There is a fix posted for this issue where you do not need to turn off vibrate or turn off view in lock screen. Go to the following link to read it. http://iostricks.com/double-text-message-ringtone-fix-iphone-4s-and-iphone-4-131

have the same problem.. doesnt happen all the time.
i assume its because too many apps are opened at once so when it is overloaded the double ring happens
