with my 4s my other got up to 8gb when i had less then 3 gb of apps and almost no music or photos.

when i got the 5 i did a fresh start and it was under 1 gb. now a few months later i have just over 3gb of apps, no music (using pandora) and about 100 pictures on the phone. My other has climbed to 5.6gb already.

why has apple not addressed this issue with an easier fix?

wiping my phone clean and starting new is a royal pain.
i have heard there are 3rd party software downloads that give you control to find all the ghost files that hog up the other space and delete them but i have yet to find one that worked for me.

how is this not a huge deal?
on apples website there is a huge thread about this but apple has not made an official announcement about it.

anyone else find an easy fix to this?

The only "easy" fix, outside of jailbreaking & deleting certain temp directories, is to restore as new. You could also try clearing certain app caches and deleting Messages.app conversations that contain photos and/or videos.

However, I believe iOS 6.1 is supposed to have fixed or in some way addressed the issue that caused this 'Other' data to accumulate in such large amounts (5+ GB).

So, is it possible that the 5.6 GB of 'Other' on your phone existed prior to the 6.1 update, if you've even updated to 6.1, and that it hasn't grown much, if at all, since then?

If that's the case, then I'd suggest restoring as new on the basis that this won't happen going forward.

that is possible, it has been in the 5gb range for awhile now. i keep expecting it to jump higher but it has hovered in the high 5 for awhile.

maybe it's time to redo it all once again and hope it's fixed.

such a pain having to re enter all my settings and stuff again.
