The easiest way to connect two Macs?

I have a mid 15 MacBook Pro and a new iMac. I would like to use the MacBook Pro as a second monitor but unfortunately it’s just a little too old to use Sidecar as an option. What other ways could I do this? Is this just connecting the two together with the thunderbolt cable or is there another method anyone would recommend.
