That's why your parents/God created you with a conscience.

(unless you're a politician or banker)

Apple at times will do a spot check but for intents purposes, its based on your honesty/morals.

FWIW, the discount for the MBA is not large, and really is 50 bucks worth the dishonesty?

If you buy at a store, they will require a student ID as well as photo ID. The last time I got a student discount (Sherman, set the wayback machine) they made photocopies of both IDs.

Online is obviously a different story, but Apple has been known to call people up and ask them to FAX copies of their student ID to an 800 number.

It all boils down to which is the more powerful force within an individual; integrity or greed. The greedy rationalize their lies and deception, but in the end it is themselves they're selling out. Your honor (integrity) is the one thing you have which nobody can ever force you to give up... yet so many squander it freely?

I think Boston U. site asks for log in info. which requires a valid student ID...
    I agree %1000 -----> education discount=discount for students.

This thread made me think of a quote from an episode of Family Guy titled, "The Son Also Draws".

Leonard Cornfeathers: Oh, I want a spiritual vision, too! Man! I guess we've lost touch with our noble roots. I mean, sure this casino's brought our tribe money and prosperity. But what is the price of our souls?

    Frank: $6 million a week.

Leonard Cornfeathers: That sounds about right.

I was thinking of using my sisters education discount to buy my maxed out 13 inch Mac Air but with the sales tax in California being what it is, I decided to get it out of Oregon which saved me about $72.00 more than her discount!

You can save more by buying it online and not getting charged tax FYI.

FYI even though some internet retailers do not collect sales tax for out-of-state, over-the-internet transactions the resultant "sales tax" (then referred as use tax) is still owed the state and the responsibility of the buyer to pay.

Another thing to consider for those taking the moral high ground.

To be honest, the MacBook Air 13" maxed out is dirt cheap at $1.799.

Here in Denmark that same machine sells for $2.572 and $2.418 with educational discount.

I can actually fly to the US and back, buy the MacBook Air and still save money. That's sad really :p

Yeah, 25% VAT is probably one of the highest in the world. However that still makes the price far from the $2.572 heh.
