The Entire M2-M2 Extreme Mac Lineup

Hello fellow Apple fans, for weeks now I have been cooking up this idea about the M2 mac lineup. I first want to say thanks to macRumors and youtube channel Max Tech and your 10/10 reporting about the M2 chips and the upcoming M2 macs. I now want to share what macs (and iPads) are getting M2, and what macs and other apple products are not getting M2 and even some other products that will never get any M-series chips or ever getting updated in the next couple of years. And here is the list:

1. The macBook air. The macBook air is going to be re branded to macbook because of the upcoming redesign. The 13" version is coming out in the fall and the 15" version is the spring of 2023. The 13" will start at $1299 and the 15" will start at $1499.
2. The macBook pro 13". This mac is not going to stick around much longer. It will be replaced by the 15" macBook.
3. The mac Mini. The mac mini will feature a redesign. It may feature colors, it might not. It will start at $699.
4. The iMac 24". This mac is the first M2 based mac to not get redesigned. It will get a center stage webcam and M2. Face ID may be present on this mac. It will launch alongside the 15" macBook . It will start at $1399.
5. The iPad pro. It will get a glass Apple logo for magsafe and feature the M2. The 11" model will get mini-LED. It will start at $999
6. The macBook pro 14"-16". It will get M2 Pro and M2 max. Starts at $1999 for the 14" and $2500 for the 16"
7. The Mac Mini pro. It will happen! It will only get M2 Pro and will start at $999
8. The iMac pro. Yes! iMac pro is happening. It will only get M2 pro and M2 max. Other than that, it will look the same at the Studio display. It will start at $3000 and launch alongside the Mac Pro.
9. The Mac Studio. Same swap out for an M2 based chip with some new features. (Swap-able SSDs maybe?) The M2 max will start at $1999 and M2 Ultra at $3999
10. Finally, Mac Pro. With a new look, not the cube that Luke Miani showed, that was Mac Studio. But the mid-sized one that he showed. It will come with M2 Ultra and M2 Extreme. It will launch at ether WWDC 2022 or WWDC 2023. The price with M2 Ultra should start and $4999.
11. iPhone will not get any M-series chips.
12. The iPad mini and the (dollar store) iPad also will not be getting an M-series chip.

I think there will be more m2 chip variations across the entire line-up. They'll probably offer three different options in the mini with the higher tier replacing the existing Intel Mini, but I don't think it will be marketed as a a pro variant. The studio might get a third option along with mac pro's being brought into the AS family.

The Mac Studio and Mac Pro are two separate products, Apple themselves confirmed that. The Mac Mini with M2 pro has to be called "mac mini pro" because Apple called M1 pro "our first pro chip." There will be two types of mac minis like there are two mac studios.

I don't understand anything written here. I never said that the studio and pro were going to be a single product.

The Mac Mini pro. It will happen! It will get at least M2 Pro, maybe M2 max.

The Mac mini wont get the Max; it would cost as much as the base Studio which already has the Max.

Mostly correct I think (1-5 look right), with the following exceptions:

6. I highly doubt we will see a USB-A socket on any MacBook ever again.

7. Mac mini "Pro" may get an M1/M2 Pro, but won't get an M1/M2 Max because this competes directly and overlaps with the Mac Studio

9. Don't think we'll see user swappable SSDs in the Mac Studio - maybe upgradeable by Apple?

10. Can't see Mac Pro with M1/M2 Ultra starting at $3000 - logically it will cost more than the Mac Studio with M1 Ultra ($4000) because it will have more features (PCIe cards? upgradable RAM + SoC RAM? ) and will be use more materials. I expect $5-6000.

The 13" won't start at $1,299 unless it's getting 16GB/512GB by default. And we'll see something like a Macbook SE in the lineup.

In order to create a price space for the mini to get a pro chip then the base has to move down in price and upgrade prices need to drop as well so he Mini side seems plausible if dropping the entry price.

The Ultra won’t go into the Mac Pro, as the Mac Pro needs to support Slots and higher ram count. As this is a SOC then that support has to be in the SOC so would increase cost/complexity of Ultra.

Cannot see user upgrade able storage in the studio either.
With the way Apple doing storage with the split of he controller circuitry into the SOC and the storage blade being linked in then would be a fairly big change.
As has been shown the current Mac Pro storage with the T2 works same way

There will be a "less pro mac pro" with M1 ultra. The current Mac Pro needs a more powerful chip to get the 1.5 TB of ram. The M2 ultra will be like the lower end intel mac pro and the M2 Extreme will be like the higher end CPUs.

Mark Gurman said that the M2 macBook (air) is getting a price jump. The M1 macBook air will stay in the lineup for about a year then the M2 macBook (air) will drop to $999.
