The trailer is engaging and I do find myself wanting to watch the show, even though I saw no bloody serpent in the trailer: what a tease.

Snakes on a Plane. Now THERE’S entertainment that gives a snake aficionado what they want! Not some blabbering Atheist and stoic Man of God falling in love and punching pews in a church.

B+

little attempt at historic accuracy sartorially, people wore hats when outside, until the1960s.

Claire Danes always seems like she’s “acting” in every scene. And any time she tries to do something intense, it just looks like she just smelled something really bad instead. Can’t get past her.

looks interesting.

I wish Apple would use the term Mini Series so I know is this a "one and done series" or a multi-year series.

I've never seen any serpents in Essex so as this is an historical documentary ( :D ) it looks like they were successful in their quest.
Yeah! That trailer showed no serpents anywhere. Very disappointed. Just shadows in the water and people convulsing and punching pews.

I can’t watch these period shows. Everyone has perfectly white straight teeth or veneers. People back then would had horrible teeth.
"Eh"... it's an unrealistic element I'm fine with. I read Timeline by Michael Crichton, then saw the film. The book details how medieval warlords and those around him have rotting teeth, reeking of garlic. The actors who played them ofc. have straight white teeth. It'd probably be too much work to match that. Another inconsistency is they spoke old English, middle French, Occitan, and Latin in those days of those regions. You wouldn't be able to time travel to that time and place and just speak modern English with them (with the "Authorian accents" like "milord" and "thy will be done") . It's pretty much a whole different language. In the book, a tech company developed ear pieces that translated their language. In the film, they just spoke straight up english.

On a related note, the also spoke English in 10,000 BC. :D

Last but not least, some questioned in See, humans have mostly been blind for centuries. They shouldn't really need clothing since modesty is more so sight related. I'd argue they still come in physical contact with each other, and that it's cold in the places they live in. Otherwise, the modesty is the audience watching since they'd rather not show a bunch of nudes going about.

If this is actual scifi/fantasy Im all in. If this is "It turns out the monster was in us the whole time" Ill pass.
Before I saw the trailer, I just assumed the show's namesake was speaking figuratively and not literally. I don't mind this sort of thing as long as the show is still good. That said, if that's not what you're expecting, then yeah, may want to look into that to save yourself the trouble!

I love all the infantile Marvel superhero stuff AND I agree with you, but some people like myself like to watch both. I especially enjoyed "Coda".
Ditto! When my SS (streaming services) free trials and annual sub to Amazon Prime ends, I'm going to be rotating SS. While I could afford them all at once, I can still stand to save the $$, and time is the bigger bottleneck anyways. Curiosity Stream will be a staple. It's only $20 per year, but it's strictly documentaries, so I'll combine that with 1 or 2 other major SS for good variety, while keeping costs down!

I do dig ATV+, but I should be able to get through everything I'd like to by the time my trial ends (2 months later). Probably won't be enough time to get through this TV series, but there are a few where their current seasons won't be fleshed out by the time my trial ends. And I'll want to resub when new seasons and content get added in.

looks interesting.

I assumed they don't b/c even they don't know what's going to be done, vs. what could go on. For example, that's the impression I got with Defending Jacob, but upon getting to the end, it seemed like they could add another season to it.

Nah...Essex gee-earls rule!

Similar to why I can't watch Star Trek. Every alien looks just like a human with an extra bone on their head.
"eh"... I'm fine with this. I knew they had budget issues with even the "alien humanoid" looks. That said, would be interested in checking out sci-fi flicks where aliens are COMPLETELY different. From Star Wars, we had the Hutts, and Genosians (winged bug humanoids)

Clare Danes is a pain. When she opened her mouth and out came an English accent on par with a bad actor in a bad high school production of *Oliver*, I thought:”Tom Hiddleston is such a fine actor. He can pull this off.”

Which brings me to my motivation for this post. I saw TH in “Betrayal” in the UK, with my husband. Even * he* agreed the man has “ It” in buckets. And aside from being a great actor who can handle comedy as deftly as drama,he exudes a sexuality that leaves me speechless. So - re: “ Essex Serpent”, I don’t think it will get high grades for anyone but Tom, the ducks & the scenery and I’m fine with that. I want to see TH making out with a woman & I want to see his beautiful smile & lovely voice. Lines like “I can’t think when I’m around you, Clare Danes” are real eye rollers, but, again, it’s Tom Hiddleston speaking.

My apologies for sounding so shallow but this is my first celebrity obsession since high school. It started with Wallender and blossomed into full blown celebrity/very fine actor love with the introduction of Loki (and all the other non-Loki films). So, I’m really sorry (I really am) if the series inaccurately represents the time, the place, the hats and the serpents but if I can watch Tom Hiddleston once a week til June, and perhaps get to glom on one or two make out scenes with those signature TH open mouth, lotsa tongue kisses, I’m happy.

It looked to me, from the preview, to be a “bodice ripper” dressed up as something of more. But to me, Tom Hiddleston is “more” enough, and is actually much more than more.
