What you do need to look into, though, is re-securing your home network. If it isn't "friends" or family carrying out this scam, how do they know what you downloaded?

Yes, it's very true. I'm also an African Prince with unlimited funds that i need to transfer to an offshore account. The government is trying to allocate these funds to a single entity, I need your help immediatley to store said funds in your account. You will be blessed with a 10% gratuity fee from the 10,000,000 USD .... will you help me :D

Total Scam, they settle for maybe $100 - $500 and you think you got a deal when you didn't have to pay a dime. Next time they call record the call and let them know you are.

Thanks you everyone for your information. Just some quick info.

1. They never called back and nothing has happened this far.
2. Our ISP provider did say the FCC called them (our real ISP client, of whom we've been working for years), and also says that he's required to send them monthly logs of our usage for a year.
3. I have since done some additional research, talked to a legal team, and they both agree, we've been possibly scammed.
4. I purchased a nice VPN (with a no-log network) just to be 100% sure.

hehe.

** I suppose classified documents might also be "illegal", but again, the FCC wouldn't be enforcing that. You'd get a personal visit from a friendly FBI agent, not a phone call.

friendly ? I don't think FBI's are anything but friendly when it comes to illegal stuff.

FCC wouldn't call people anyway, nor world Microsoft...

First rule, if u did not initiate the call, then anyone claiming its a <that company> is a scam..

Sounds like your ISP got scammed as well since that wouldn't be the FCC doing that as copyright enforcement isn't their job.

Edit why was this thread replied to when it's a couple years old?
