It’s the Microsoft store that’s getting the renovation at this mall

Lol. Break room.

We’re moving the coffee pot over here and bringing in a new refrigerator, and replacing this old table. They’re also tearing down the walls between the two bathrooms. There will now be a single large bathroom. Instead of a male / female logo on the door, it’ll simply have a confused emoji emblem.

That first picture looks exactly like the one in Basingstoke, UK. Even down to the balcony railing in front. Think differently, shop identically.

Really miss the guy. His energy, his presentation, and his vision were bar none.

Once Steve admit there is an mistake, he fixes them as quickly as they can. And he observe and listens to customers very intensely. Mac would not have a keyboard that people complained for years without an actual fix. Mac Pro would not be left behind without update or plan until a major studio decided to completely drop Mac from production.

While Steves does have his flaws, his presence is net positive and is only felt once he left us.

Did he walk on water too?

Update: No? Then just redact and remove the whole article. Unless this is some new way of getting views? Write a headline that is guaranteed to get clicks, let tons of people read the article, then when the last few stragglers are rolling in, update the article with an "Update: No". Seems legit.

at the 5th ave flagship store (the temporary replacement one) in nyc, they removed the kiddy section where you can sit on bean bags and just try out the computer. why? they also got rid of his business model which was the first 25% of the store has the entire product line. that is true for the temporary store in place now as well as the one that was there (under the cube in the basement). gone are the name tags of home, pro, solutions, etc. it's just random tables with tech on there. i am referencing this post against the video from 2001 in the original first post here.

Maybe they can remodel, remove the white light from the Apple logo on the front of the store, and replace it with a glossy black to match all recent products.

That backlight (once it started facing the right way) was a draw to the Mac. Sad to see it go.

This site is turning in to major click bait, and this article is proof of it.

Really turned off for this sort of behaviour by the writers.

Rushing to be first before all the facts are in can leave a bit of egg on your face.

The permit request could have simply been to put a new electrical outlet in the break room for an espresso machine.

I'll have to innovate my ass over to that break room. It will be a revolution in minimalism. And it's SO thin.

You're lucky. Apple care has a 60% "expected attachment rate" which means that 6 out of 10 products sold are expected to have it in the sale. If the employee misses this mark, he will have monthly "leadership meetings" where an employee who sells more apple care than you basically teaches you his set of lies that he uses to move applecare. If you refuse, eventually you are fired for poor performance. It's really sad. This also happens with one to one memberships, although at an expected attachment rate of 30%. And this is only one of the changes made under Tim. There were so many other atrocious changes.

That's what happens when the 'suits' get in charge of something. There's always some scheme to extract a bit more cash... customer experience be damned.

I was there, in line with my wife, when this opened.

I had recently purchased a Blue & White G3 400 PowerMac and bought a matching (literally -- blue and white) Epson printer that day. We each got a Tysons Corner Apple Store t-shirt. One of them is still in its tube. :)

I wrote a blog post about the day. And took photos, like the one above, with an Apple QuickTake 200 digital camera.

How did someone manage to turn a metal stud only (usually means they're moving or removing a temporary/interior wall with no electrical rewiring required) into "significant interior alterations to the store, with demolition work involved, suggesting that the location is set to receive a facelift."?

That was peak civilisation... 1993->2000. That's not even "nostalgia" per se, it's just a fact. Everyone thought things were going to get better. That optimism is missed now.

It [Apple Retail Store] became like a used car dealership in terms of sneaky sales tactics, with management breathing down your neck to sell people apple care.

I’ve shopped at Apple Retail Stores many times and aside from the hard sell on Apple Care Plus for iPhones I’ve never experienced anything you’ve mentioned.
