First time i saw/recognized one was on Sex and the City (Pismo PowerBooks).

First time i used one was when a friend bought an iPod 3G (when they cost $400-$600)

I then saved and bought one for myself a few months later.

history

my first exposure to a Mac was at a former's friend's college in 1991.

She introduced me to the graphic designer who designed my magazine in the early/mid 90s. Said designer had a mid 90s PowerMac, but eventually told me I should learn graphic design since my art direction challenged him.

Bought my first power Mac in either late 1995 or early 1996. Since then, I've had one more Power Mac, four iMacs (including this 2010 which is my last), an iPhone 3gS, iphone 4s, an iPad 2 and a brand new 15" MBP. And at least 5 or 6 ipod shuffles/nanos, thank goodness for the iphone because I killed those shuffles pretty quickly. I lost a couple of macs to power surges and had a couple of lemons both of which Apple took care of.

I miss my G4 lamp base iMac (2002). That is my favorite iMac design, it was so 1960s futuristic (Jetsons). I have to admit, it is only fairly recently I've become fully aware of my love for Apple's design, I've stuck through thick and thin because they are just so darn easy to use. No fuss, no muss.

The MBAs are utterly gorgeous and I look forward to the time when they will all the computer I need. Right now, they are not. But I will still drool from afar ;)

My first experience would have been with the Mac Plus at my school back in about 1990 (maybe a little earlier). I would have been 13 or 14 at the time. I remember we had external hard discs on them and the scanner connected via SCSI. I liked them from that point on, although at home I had the next best thing to a Mac - A Commodore Amiga.

The first time I have seen and used was an iMac G3 at Sears during the 90's. I was always begging my parents to get one to use as my first computer. But relatives were brainwashing my parents to not get a mac because they are useless and that they don't work well like a PC.

In elementary school at the computer lab they used the last models of the G3's I remember when the techs were unboxing them and setting them up.

When I was in Intermediate school my parents gave me a 30 GB Black iPod video, my first Apple product. :D

Now I own a 2009 MacBook Pro and now my relatives are jealous with their Windows computers. :p

When I was a kid, back in the 80s, my neighbour ran a computer shop. He drove a Lotus Elite and talked about Apple computers a lot.
One day he came home over excited as he'd just had his first delivery of Apple stuff to sell. He brought home an Apple II. That was the first time I saw one.

My dad was a senior arts lecturer at a university. Durnig the holidays he used to take me in to work. One year he sat me in front of their newly accquired Macintoshes and let me use it all day.

The first time I used an Apple computer was on a Photoshop course at the local college back in 2001. I loved the hardware but the operating system (OS 9) was horrible.

The lecturer told me not to dismiss Macs because the new OS X was going to be a big improvement. I was hooked a couple of years later :)

Ever since elementary school that was all we had in schools (started kindergarten at age 5 in 1993). Obviously we weren't using them that early, but the school district that I was in used nothing but Apple computers. My mom was a teacher in the same school district, and she had a computer in her room that the district let her bring home during the summers since it wasn't going to be used anyway. I wanna say it was a Macintosh Classic, but I really don't remember.

During the later part of elementary school and all throughout middle school and high school, all we had was macs, and at this time, I still preferred Windows over a Mac, because Windows was what we had a home, and Windows was what I knew how to use. I could find my way around a Mac no problem at school if I had to, but still preferred Windows. The first apple product I really bought was an iPhone 3G 8GB and I loved it until the home button stopped working. Bought a mid 2009 MBP in February 2010 and have had it ever since. Still running Windows in a VM on it, but OSX Lion is great.

When I was in Kindergarden, my school got the (then) new iMac G3. I used those on OS 9 and played KidPix and a lot of other games. I loved it. I finally decided that I wanted an apple product of my own in 2005 when I got a first generation 1GB iPod nano. Then in 2006, I got a 30GB iPod Video. February 2008, I got a MacBook for my birthday.

Every summer we would spend a week or so with my aunt/uncle at their lake house. Uncle was a teacher and they were allowed to bring home a computer in the summer. This was in the late 80s to early 90s. Not sure what the model was, but I remember playing oregon trail on it.

It's surprising how many people actually remember the first time they saw or used an Apple product, they are truly iconic. Have enjoyed reading through the replies.

I was literally born to use an apple product...

It's kind of cool that I was born in the year that the apple was first conceptualized by Jobs and Woz. But it wasn't until in the second grade or so at a school I attended that I was first exposed to a computer. It was indeed an apple II, the turtle drawing application. You type in the coordinate numbers and formulas that it would either draw a line and/or cool star shapes or squares. Then number crunchers, then the cool Oregon Trail. And among other 5.5" floppy switching apps!

Then later in life, my parents got me my first desktop computer, an apple IIGS. GS standing for Graphics and Sound. This was a 512k ram, no hard drive, had a 5.5" floppy drive AND a 3.25 Floppy disk drive. It was a neat looking desktop. Quite handsome looking if I can remember it....:p Huh, GS... I currently own my first smart phone which is an iPhone 3GS. Coincidence? Anyway. My desktop served me as a way to keep sane when I was sheltered by my strict korean parents. They didn't want me to waste my time spending the "FUN" time hanging out. Just study and get straight A's. So, I learned to type fast by forcing myself to learn the home keys I heard about when typing. So I started to transcribe the few books of the Holly Bible starting with Genesis. I never got too far later in life with it by attempting to type out the whole bible. That's because I was attending the Christian school in my early grades before high school. I had a few programs that was cool, graphics program which required a lot of switching out the floppies as it loaded. It got me to learn a lot about using productive applications.

Life goes on, I got myself the first Mac Clone laptop during the "Clone Wars" no pun intended. But ever since then it always has been a laptop. A G3 black laptop. But every new laptop I would get was faster. Then I got into the macbook pro. ANd now here I am with my current MacBook Pro that I do all my high quality graphic design and video editing production. ANd I make money with it. It's great. I have my own company that I service for any local businesses that want a web presence but I designed my company in such a way that apple would design their computers. Usability and fun. Self manageable and still look great on the web front. So, that's the life experience with apple related products.

My dream computer is a MAX out Mac Pro desktop with dual apple screen. I never once bought a virus protection program since I've used an apple product. I feel much more relaxed with it. I never had to fiddle with the operating systems the way I seen my high school best friend's PC (Windows) system. I mean more often than not it seems there's some quark about windows he needs to remedy or whatever. Hey more power to him that he knows how to tackle those, but it takes away some of the productivity at hand. And I knew that I would NOT want to waste my time with that sort of thing. I wouldn't be able to if anything. Just because I use a laptop and can have a exquisite creative design work, I'm no computer geek, but I sure know how to use powerful Apps like photoshop and After affects, Final cut pro, etc and the fact that any equipment I get apple related it's just an easy plug and play feel and smooth sailing. My iPhone just syncs well, and at times just syncs without even connecting to my laptop... (how cool!!!) likewise, my external hard drives, and other peripherals. It just feels just the way Steve Jobs had intended to make it. Fully integratable system. I really don't have to think or worry about anything other than what my mission is at hand.

Sure my best friend, a PC user, is a very talented programmer and I would never match his talent in that field and an avid first person shooter game player which I'll admit, they have cool PC games. And that's why, heaven forbid, I actually loaded Bootcamp (windows) within my MacBook Pro and when I'm in a gaming mode, I play a few games that the system can handle smoothly. It is kind of like having two computers in one, but I feel uneasy at times when I'm in that environment. I'm always afraid someone is lurking through the net into my window side. I know I wouldn't ever worry about that being carried over to the mac side if there was a virus attack. I only would use windows if I need to ensure same cross browsing experience when developing web sites on both popular mac and window browsers... And games. But nothing else. Admittedly I have to always ask my best friend to teach me a thing or two on the windows side but that's because I'm not use to that side.

Anyway. I hope you enjoyed my apple experience within this thread. It's really my first time I ever written something like this. If you do see any grammar problems, although with the auto spell checking, the spelling should be fine for the most part, but please forgive me on the grammar side. Not my strongest suite. I read it a loud to my girlfriend and she thought it was amazing what i wrote considering I'm not a writer. It's definitely from my heart and hopefully translated well here. Who knows, maybe that'll be my next thing in life to write something. But my girlfriend does want me to save this, print it off and put in our Luv Scrapbook for our kids to read in the future. Yes, if you guessed it, she is an apple fan and I probably wouldn't have dated her if she was a PC user. We'd be debating and battling out which is better. LOL. Just kidding. Remember, it's better to be more productive and focused on what you need to do when it comes to computing. Stay cool and be creative.

No happy stories here for many years.

My first experience was in a Byte Shop in 1979 with my (then) 2 year old son trying out an Apple ][. He would hit the bright "reset" key, requiring a strange incantation to recover. I bought a TRS-80 which didn't have that issue.

My second experience was at work in 1984 with the first Macintosh. I had one for a couple of days but found that it was too weak to be useful -- it wouldn't handle documents larger than two pages long before it ran out of memory.

I went to the Newton developers conference in the early 1990's, but didn't buy a Newton. I eventually bought a Palm Pilot and use Palm PDAs for years.

I bought an iPod and returned it the next day.

I bought my first Mac, and first Apple product, in 2005, and haven't bought a non-Apple computer since. I also have a 2G iPod Touch which has replaced the Palm PDAs.

Purchased an iPod Nano in December 2011 in the Regents Street Store whilst on a 2 day holiday to London. Then got a Shuffle for use in the gym as a Christmas present. :)

Since then I've decided to get an iPad 2 or 3 (if it's out in the States when I'm over there) and a Mac Mini. Although recently I've been fighting the crazy urge to get a 21.5" iMac instead.

I was in grade 8 when the G3 iMacs came out. I remember them being really buggy at first.

My first time using an apple product was an Apple IIe when I was in Kindergarten back in 1989. After that year I think they got rid of the Apple 2's and it was all mac.

It was interesting to see all those old macs, some connected with ethernet, some with appletalk. appletalk printers and everything else. All the different schools were networked too and the school board headquarters. It was quite the setup.

I just realized they weren't new when I was in kindergarden. They had the original 1998 tray-loading opaque-cased G3's. When I started kindergarden in 2001, the teachers had the much nicer slot loaders with the beautiful glossy cases where you could see inside the machine. I envied those. I thought they were so much nicer than the opaque ones.

First Mac ever was one of those semi transparent emacs. I hated them compared to my Windows ME OS. Then I got a shot at an iMac 3-4 years ago and hated it compared to my Vista OS. Then last year I tried a MBP and got attached to it rapidly compared to my silly Gateway NV53A.

My first experience with an Apple product was with some iMac G3s in my High School's computer lab. I remember myself and other kids hating to use them because they were so SLOW and they always froze. Fortunately they had moved on to some Dell PCs by the time I was a senior.

I find it weird that some people consider those to be the computers that saved Apple. Must have had a pretty scary line of products if those monstrosities saved the day.

My first GOOD experience was using an eMac at college. Loved it so much that I bought one for myself as my first Mac :)

My Dad gave me his old LC3 when I was very little :)
