I had the exact opposite experience, coming from my X.
I think it's a bit worse on the Pro. Because if you are trying to use it one handed, you will have to relocate it a bit, to be able to reach most of the screen, and a lot of the "grip" on the phone will have to come from the back of it. And the back is very slippery with that frosted glass.

At least that is how it was with my small hands.

I feared the sharper edges, especially as I typically rest the phone on my little finger when using one handed.

It’s been fine for me, there is a large enough flat area for the edges to not dig in.

YMMV

Use AirPods, I never hold the phone if I know its going to be a long call.

On the one hand, I find this to be a completely ridiculous answer of the phone is actually more uncomfortable than other phones. But, the complaints also don’t make sense to me. Phones have been uncomfortable to hold to your ear for long calls since long before cell phones. Is this actually a problem with the phone?

The main problem is the bottom part,

my pinky finger rests exactly where the speaker grill is, near the lightning port and it really digs into there.

Disagree

My fingers lock into the flat sides like a claw machine firmly grasping the prize

I feel a lot more confident holding this device vs the soap bar edges

It’s unambiguous my pinky is resting on the underside too, vs kinda sorta part of the underside

My first iPhone was the 5c. I got a 5s but immediately hated it, got rid of it within a week. I will be in a bind if they never move back to rounded edges. I just can't seem to stand blocky edges on a device.

I don't know who people are trying to kid when they say the new design isn't slippery. Its just a freaking slippery as the 11 Pro. I guess the flat edges make it maybe ever so slightly less slippery but its still SUPER slippery in the hands.

I actually had that with the 11PM. Somehow the 12 pro sits better for me.

I keep waiting for apple to bring back the rounded sides. I ABSOLUTELY HATE THE FLAT SIDES!!! Seriously, no matter what case I have tried with my last two phones with flat sides its extremely uncomfortable to hold the phone. At times I don't even want to use my phone due to it.

As for people that say rounded sides make the phone more slippery and hard to hold, I say hit the gym and develop some hand strength. For me the flat sides make it more prone to drops as well as making the phone look ugly.
