on the other fronts in society, the us will still have the two party political system 100 years from now and this will hide a lot of corruption and back room dealings
teen pregnancy will continue to plague us and some will try and still push for abstinence but get poor results
handguns will still be a problem and the nra will continue to be a powerful washington lobby while innocent civilians are still victims
but all will not be grim...
racism will be greatly diminished since the usa would have already had a minority president by that time as well as a female president...other countries who have not followed suit, will eventually fall into line
we will have a better, safer source of energy
the world will have fewer violent conflicts, less overpopulation, and microbe related diseases will almost be a thing of the past but wi will be another 100 years or more beyond that before lifestyle diseases related to bad diet can be conquered and it won't be in the form of a fat burning pill, but in genetically engineered foods
We have had a two party system since the early 1800s. Only the first presidents did not have a two party system in the politics of the day. President #2 was John Adams... President #3 was Thomas Jefferson. It was Thomas Jefferson that started the Democrat-Republicans against the Federalists supporting John Adams.
Prior to Jefferson's first term, the electoral votes were evenly divided, and even with the House of Representatives voting, it was still deadlocked. It took John Adams to convince his Federalist supporters to break the deadlock and support Jefferson.
So quitchyerbeetchin already.
Teen pregnancy, whats so bad about having teens buy their own prophylaxis? They have enough to go and buy music CDs and concert tickets, they can go and buy their own condoms and diaphrams.
Handguns, and the rate of accidental death with handguns have been on the decline, in part, to gun safety education efforts of the NRA and other groups. MMM and Brady are the ones against gun safety education, saying that its indoctrination. You can't child-proof the world, but you can world-proof the child.
NRA is a powerful lobby. 4 million members, and growing should make for a powerful lobbying group. As of the 2000 census, out of 280million inhabitants, there are 224million adults. Out of the 1998 election (the last time there is data), only 42% of registered voters actually voted. (Only 62% of eligible adults registered, 42% actually voted.) A total of 83 million voted in 1998.
NRA members tend to vote. So 4 million out of 83 million is 4.8%, which is not chump change.
If racism is greatly diminished, can we abolish affirmative action programs yet?
Better and safer source of energy... sounds nuclear to me. If primitive man can harness and tame fire, we should be able to harness and tame atomic energy... if the Luddites would only leave us alone and go back to eating their tofu.
(I grew up eating tofu. Nothing bad about tofu dishes. My favorite is 1 pound of tofu chopped into 1/2 inch cubes, with soy sauce and garlic and green onion, and black bean paste, WITH 2 POUNDS OF GROUNDED BEEF!!!
