When has Apple every worried about losing or angering a small minority of their customers?

Matte vs Glossy, Expresscard, FW400, removable battery, and that's just in the past year. Writing's on the wall. Classic's on its way out.

They usually do a pretty good job of considering there customers...when haven't they? If you say snow leopard not supporting PPC that really doesn't count.

yeah i highly doubt that. so many people just want a cheap iPod for the car, or for working out. touchscreens aren't going to work

I agree with you BUT look at what apple did with the shuffle. For better or worse, they don't always think about these things like the rest of us do.

128GB is not even close to enough space though. For a company that wants you to purchase as much (space consuming) media as possible from their store, Apple needs to step up with some serious disk space.

I hardly think Apple expects you to take your entire collection with you at all times. Not to mention, they don't seem to think many users will even have total collections that large: the Mac Mini, which is a popular media centre device, ships with a 120GB HDD standard...

That, and Apple previously offered a 160GB Classic, but it didn't sell very well, so they reduced capacity to 120GB. The demand for super-high-capacity iPods simply is not there.

I think the Classic is not long for this world. Once the iPod touch reaches some threshold of storage - likely 128GB, I think the touch will simply replace the Classic as "the iPod". I also doubt/hope they do not move to touchscreen on the nano... the click wheel is a great interface, and is perfect for working out/driving/any number of tasks where touch interfaces perform poorly. And it would mean rescaling the OS and any apps...
