That's what This thread is for :)

Indeed it is! This was just a thread for tracking the actual collections of computers, just to see a cool list laid out.

My new collection, updated as of Oct. 1:

MacBook (black) 2.0Ghz/2GB/120GB/10.4.8
iPod nano 2nd Gen 8GB

And... thats it. Yes, sadly I had to sell off my collection before leaving for college. Maybe some day I will have my own place and can start a collection again!

I brought my first mac about 2 years ago.

This is what I've aquired in that time, what I paid for them, and what I use them for / what happened to them.

Powerbook 15'' 1.5ghz - Brought for £1200 - main computer - my first Apple buy!

Powermac G3 B+W - Brought for £50 - RAID5 household media server

iBook G3 700 MHZ - brought for £300 - backup computer - now on loan to my dad

iBook G4 1.5GHZ - brought for £700 - girlfriend's computer.

iBook G4 1.5GHZ - borrowed from work while my Powerbook is under repair

PowerPC 8800/50 - Donation - put on garden wall 3 days ago and someone took it off my hands.

Apple CRT monitor 14'' (I think) - donation - Freecycled off to someone a few months ago

Radius vertical CRT monitor - donation - also freecycled off a few months ago.

Powerbook 5300c - non-working scrap donation - will trash it in a few days if no-one takes it.

Non-Mac:

AMD 700mhz PC - learning myth TV backend testbox - will get rid of in a few weeks if Myth doesnt work out for me.

IBM thinkpad 266MHz- £50 - possible digital photoframe

Dell laptop - broken screen - donation - possible home webserver

I also used to own 14 PC's several years ago, but got rid of all of them when I got a new girlfriend / moved house :)

My Collection - my site needs updating.

I've recently started to consolidate all my various images in one place, and that's Gallery 2. A good number of my machines now have photos or albums there - have a look!

the performa finally finished rendering. i ran the povray benchmark scene on the machine. the program was custom compiled and the scene was run with the recommended command-line switches. here's the result:

Perform 6400/200 (603e)
Parse Time: 0 hours 0 minutes 31 seconds (31 seconds)
Photon Time: 0 hours 14 minutes 5 seconds (845 seconds)
Render Time: 15 hours 29 minutes 40 seconds (55780 seconds)
Total Time: 15 hours 44 minutes 16 seconds (56656 seconds)

by comparison here's my 2.4 ghz athlon64

Parse Time: 0 hours 0 minutes 1 seconds (1 seconds)
Photon Time: 0 hours 0 minutes 28 seconds (28 seconds)
Render Time: 0 hours 19 minutes 55 seconds (1195 seconds)
Total Time: 0 hours 20 minutes 24 seconds (1224 seconds)

amazing what 10 years of computing progress brings

a couple of days ago I picked up another old mac.. a duo 280c with a bad logic board for $15 shipped. Switched the logic board, and now everything is working great!
