I'm probably going to be buying my second Mac within the month. But all this talk about grainy displays has put me off, so I went to a local reseller who carries every Mac and Apple display to check it out myself.

Every Apple/Mac display, except the MacBook, (iMacs, MacBook Pros and the Cinema Displays) had more or less grainy displays. Worst of them all was the MacBook Pro followed by the Cinema displays.

So is this really a (dithering) software problem, and why then won't Apple release a fix? I compared to some Vaios and HPs in the store, and they had great screens.

Do you think this will be adressed in the next revision of MBPs?

I think it's the anti-reflective layer they are using. It's not something that can be changed through softwaree/firmware. I think the best in terms of grain is the macbook, followed by the 17"mbp, then the MBP 15"
