For those that can't see it, the Oregonian is covering it, along with NASA, PBS, and the Smithsonian.

Let's have some fun with this while it happens. Name a song that would be apropos for this, that is NOT Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse of the Heart.

I'll start: Bruce Hornsby: Walk on the Sun

And go! :)

We were in Charleston, South Carolina but it was going to be cloudy. So we escaped up to Greenville and the view was glorious!

Completely silver with purple-ish fringes. 2 minutes 30 seconds felt more like 20 seconds.

The lighting before and after was strange also

Amazing experience to be sure!

..and the diamond ring!

Very cool! Thank you for sharing. Where I am it wasn't a full eclipse, I believe it was only 94-95% but was still a site to see! The "diamond ring" photo is just amazing!

Great freaking shots!!!!!!! We were only treated to a quarter of it, no pictures, but it was still pretty darn cool. Would have loved to have seen it at it's full peak! Very cool.

Awesome photos, @obeygiant, thanks for sharing them.

My family drove one hour to Rexburg, Idaho. That was the center of totality. We found a park immediately off the highway and set up there. Unfortunately, all I have is my iPhone so not a single good picture of the eclipse.
However, I took a panaramic picture of the horizon showing darkness contrasting with the light on the horizon. Look closely rom left to right and you can see the sun just starting to peek out from behind the moon.
This was ABSOLUTELY the most amazing natural phenomenon I have ever seen, and quite possibly the only one I will ever see. So, I hope you all enjoy my only picture.

Hmmmm. My picture must be to big. I keep getting an error when trying to post. I'll keep trying though

Some prankster covered the sky with clouds. I'm not in the path of totality, but the sun is totally eclipsed.

Please forgive me for hijacking your post but perhaps you can help. I'm trying to post a panaramic picture of the eclipse but keep getting an error message.
Would this be because it's too large for this forum? Any help would be appreciated. Thx, Pete

It says security error has occurred. Try pressing the back button and hit refresh then try again.
[doublepost=1503459485][/doublepost]Ok, I think I can upload as a screenshot. Not as nice, but much smaller pixels.

GRRRRR. that's not working either. Maybe the forums are having a kick in the server tonight

Way better pictures than we got... but we were just using our iPhones with our eclipse glasses held over the lens! :D

We had a scare with around 3 minutes to totality when a cloud rolled in. Everyone in the park we were in groaned. But with less than a minute to go the cloud cleared out and everyone cheered. Just in time for the diamond ring.

And I agree, our 2:10 felt more like 20 seconds.

For 2024 we are deciding between staying local and seeing the eclipse in Vermont (where it might still be snowing in April) or flying down to Texas where it should be warm.
