Im not sure if this is against forum rules because it goes against Verizon so demi’s edit out the parts if its not allowed.

Well I have seen many threads on this topic and just recently found out how to do these things though Bluetooth

iSync
Moving pictures and movies to your Mac
Send songs as ring-tones

Beginning: First you will need to set your Bluetooth as discoverable. Then click on the set up Bluetooth device. Click continue. Then click Mobile phone. Next on your phone either click the down arrow. (Or if that doesn’t work go to menu, Settings and Tools. Go down until connections. Then hit Bluetooth.) Next go to set up and hit find me. Hit yes. Then on your computer hit continue. Then hit continue again. Allow it to get the information needed then click continue. Then enter the number from your Mac to your phone. Unless you know what this is in the next step just uncheck the “Access the Internet with your phone’s data connection. Then click quit.

iSync: (I belive this requires 10.4) This isn’t to bad of a process. First back up your original copy of iSync incase anything goes wrong. Next download this file from http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9PH5DVRU. After than open it and “sync devices”
A box will come up and click “add device”. Be sure to have your phone in the “find me” mode so it can find your RAZR. It should look like picture #1. Double click it to ad your phone. Select your options and your set for iSyncing.

Moving pictures and movies to your Mac:
Click on the Bluetooth icon on the top part of the screen. Click “Browse Device”. Turn on your phones Bluetooth then click browse . A box like this will come up. (picture #2) To get pictures click on the picture folder. You can either drop only the ones you want to your desktop or a folder. Or to get all of them press Command (apple) and “A” for all them, then drop those into your wanted destination. Same goes for videos.

You can put your photos or videos from your Mac but I don’t know the settings for that.

Sending songs as ring tones:
To do this do the same first steps as the moving pictures and movies to your Mac. Once you get to the this screen (picture #2) click on audio. Then you can send songs from your iTunes library to use as ring tones. If anyone knows of a good program to “crop” (don’t know if that’s the right word) songs please post it here and I will edit it and put it as a suggestion.

*Not don’t get mad at me if you screw up your phone, I don’t know how you would but just a heads up.

When the RAZR V3 was available for Verizon I bought it the day it came out and also found out iSync wouldn't recognize it. So I maneuvered over to howardforums.com and saw where someone had an update to iSync to allow the new RAZR V3 to be recognized. I haven't had any problems yet syncing. Well I have noticed that one number in Address Book that was synced over does not show in my Contacts, but when I dial the number it shows "Calling [person's name]" and the mobile icon. So I don't know what's up with that.

As for transferring files Bluetooth File Exchange is in your utilities folder. Like above you'll need to turn on BT on your phone and pair it with your machine.

Cool about the ring tones. Didn't know about adding iTunes songs. I think in iTunes you can set in/out points to songs and export it. If not then just use Quicktime (Pro I think).

EDIT:
I believe trim is the proper audio cropping verb.

will this work for the Motorola E815? Or that samsung sch-a950?

I don't think it will, but if you back up iSync it cant hurt to try.

quigleybc Are you using a Verizon or Alltel RAZR? If your using the version that is actually supported by it then thats probably the reason

Problem

I've installed Brian's plugin, added my phone and synced my contacts without a problem. But, the calendar sync isn't working. I keep getting this error:

The connection was lost while sending some changes to the device.
Device "Motorola Phone" synchronization failed"

I've tried turning the phone on and off and still no good. I also tried disabling the contacts sync to just focus on calendars but that didn't work either. Any ideas?

Thanks!

I had this happen to me to. First thing I would try is to quit iCal. Then use iSync.

Also, I think the plug-in doesn't work completely with all-day events so I don't use that feature.

Try that. I hope it helps.

In that pic, the Razr appears as the Black version, on my iSync, it shows up as the Silver one...I wonder how I can get it to be the Black one too...

Obviously this is a minimal problem, actually it's not a problem at all....

Just curious.
Mine did that too with my BLK RAZR, which synced perfectly with iSync.

My V3i had problems (and stil does over bluetooth). I've managed to modify the settings file of iSync that just simply adds a basic entry for the V3i, this works beautifully over the USB sync cable, no problems at all, but bluetooth is still a problem...it crashes my phone!

The whole silver icon/black icon issue can be solved in the samea settings file. There is an entry that states what icon is used for that phone (as there is a folder full of the phone icons to use). All you do is change the V3 entry so that it points to the black version (check the icon file name in the folder so you know what it is called exactly).

I didn't want the silver icon for my V3i so I changed it to the black one. (Even though it still used the silver icon for my old V3 BLK!)

Still no good

Maybe it is possible that some of your calendar events are all-day and that is affecting the synching?

My only suggestion is to try this:

1) export your iCal events to a file for backup purposes.
2) clear all of your iCal calendar events.
3) make a test event and make sure it is not an all-day event
4) try synching now.

If this fails, then I don't know what to tell you. Import your backup and move-on I guess.

Good Luck.

I feel like I'm missing a critical inbetween step. Where do you put the files you dl from megaupload. I tried putting them in library/preferences but when i try to sync it says found motorola phone but can't sync with this device. I'm using a razr v3c.

I have no problem connecting my razr to my pbook via bluetooth.

But I can't get it to sync with the address book.
Apparently this is because i am running 10.3.9.
Is this true?
Is there a way to do it without having to purchase a 3rd party app?

I can sync but can't transfer files

I have the Verizon Razr V3c, Powerbook w/10.4.5.

I downloaded Brian Toth's hack to iSync, and this works fine--I can sync my calendar and address book easily.

However, I can't seem to get any files exchanged with the phone. When I click on the bluetooth icon in the menu bar and select browse device, the bluetooth file exchange opens up and it lists my phone. But when I click on browse, I get nothing but the error: "Device does not have the necessary services." Is there something else I need to be doing?

Can I ask: did it work the first time? Have you ever gotten an error message? I got an initial sync but then it deleted four weeks of my iCal. Since then, it has not worked for me, always giving me the error message.

Thanks.

Here's a link to a very detailed process of doing this:

http://www.askdavetaylor.com/motorola_razr_v3c_and_mac_os_x_transfer_pictures_and_wallpaper.html

I have yet to try it though. My verizon razr is on its way via mail. Verizon has an excellent deal right now - $50 off if you order/upgrade online + I got an additional $99 off for the 2-year phone upgrade path which means I just paid $0.00 for this new phone. It was good news to me as my Treo 600 charger just stopped working so I have to charge my phone in the car and do not want to spend $ on a new wall charger. I should get this phone in a week or so. Once I do I'll also try this out and post the results I have with syncing.

Apparently if you have software v.3 instead of v.2 then OBEX (bluetooth object transfers) is disabled and you cannot do this even with the above mentioned steps.

Someone has also been able to flash their phone back to software v.2, but on a PC. They were then able to get this to work. Is it possible to flash something using Virtual PC 7?

Anyone with a problem might want to contact verizon to let them know. They sent this e-mail to one person who complained:

From Verizon Wireless Support:
"The Motorola Razr is currently not capable of transferring files using Bluetooth technology. Bluetooth capability is a specialized function of this handset, not a feature of our wireless phone service. Verizon Wireless offers limited support of this technology for select devices such as wireless headsets, hands free car kits and dial up networking. We are reviewing the possibility of providing a software update for the Razr that will re-enable the file transfer capability. It is the intent of Verizon Wireless to provide the best equipment and services possible while maintaining reasonable security measures to protect our customers and the security of our wireless network. This issue has been acknowledged by Verizon Wireless as a potential concern and we are working to provide a suitable solution that will ensure the best customer experience possible."

.3 software

Jovian9 said:

This link was very helpful. Unfortunately, it appears that I'm out of luck It does appear that right now anyone with the .3 version of the software cannot sync anything (contacts, calendars) or do OBEX using any of the hacks I've seen out there. This is particularly frustrating and I recommend folks contact Verizon. Of course, if someone knows how to do this, please let us know.

Also, it seems like whether you get a .2 or .3 version is somewhat up to the luck of the draw. I got a .3, others are getting .2 new.

I think I had trouble the first time. His page suggested deleting the device, turning off bluetooth on phone and then turning off phone, and then restarting. After that it was all fine.

I guess I might have the later version of the software. I noticed in the bluetooth preferences that under device the phone has:

Device Services: Headset Voice Gateway, Handsfree Voice Gateway, Dial-Up Networking Gateway

No OBEX listed, unlike what Dave Taylor's screen capture shows. At least I can get the addresses into the phone; that was huge for me.

Verizon removed OBEX functionality with the latest firmware, so if your razr is relatively new you won't be able to x-fer songs over bluetooth without doing a seem-edit. see howardforums.com.

The first time I tried Brian's plug-in it did not sync. I quit iCal and iSync, opened iSync again and it has worked.

Are you using Mac OS 10.4.3? I think that is min requirement.

To the other poster: Brian's plug-in will not let you exchange files, only sync with address book and iCal.

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to get a RAZR V3c soon. I'm running 10.4.5. If I do get the phone to sync with my iBook, I was wondering if when the contacts transfer whether or not the pictures I have attached in Address Book will transfer too. Anyone know?

No, the pictures will not transfer if using Brian's plug-in.

Just wondering if anyone has figured out hooking up file transfering without flashing my Razr(have the v3)..

I just am wanting to get tones and such to my phone.

Will it work with a data cable?
