Email your phone

Just wondering if anyone has figured out hooking up file transfering without flashing my Razr(have the v3)..

I just am wanting to get tones and such to my phone.

Will it work with a data cable?

I know you can transfer pictures to your phone by emailing it, I don't know about ringtones and such. It should work, I suppose. Your phone's email address is:

Yes, go to howardforums.com and into the motorolla/verizon forum (assuming you have verizon). Do a search for isync and razr, you should come up with something. There is a patch for iSync that allows syncing. Bluetooth file transfer should work w/out the patch.

I have a little trouble understanding if internationally released phones will work in Canada. Basically, I have service with Bell and I want to buy the V3i phone off ebay, will I be able to have service from Bell? Any help is appreciated!

I have the V3c with the latest firmware so I can't transfer via bluetooth(the OBEX is disabled)... I'm just wondering if I can still get mp3's to my phone via the USB cable... Is that possible without having to flash the firmware, and what programs do I need(PC) to do so?

wont work...

When i try to to the isync it tells me this..... "Cannot connect to the device. Connection to device was closed." Does anyone know why it is doing that. And also when i try to browse the device using the bluetooth, it tells me..."Device does not have necessary services." If anyone could tell me what Im doing wrong, that would be great. Thanks...

Anyone started from scratch after installing 10.4.6? It's supposed to include fixes and updates to iSync. See if it fixes anyone's issues who have Tiger.

It recommends on the Apple site you try and sync your devices before the update, which might be a tad hard for some of you obviously! As the update is trying to let you sync in the first place!

Forget syncing... anybody figure out how to copy sounds and pic's to the V3c for ringtones and wallpaper???

You can email pictures to your phone, and I suspect ringtones as well. Your phone's email is:

[YOURPHONENUMBER]@vzwpix.com

If I email the picture, will it automatically res down the image or do I have to save it to a specific size? Have you done this before with both images and sounds?

It will, you can pan and crop in the phone, but it's easier to do on your computer first. Go to howardforums.com and the explanations are there.

When the RAZR V3 was available for Verizon I bought it the day it came out and also found out iSync wouldn't recognize it. So I maneuvered over to howardforums.com and saw where someone had an update to iSync to allow the new RAZR V3 to be recognized. I haven't had any problems yet syncing. Well I have noticed that one number in Address Book that was synced over does not show in my Contacts, but when I dial the number it shows "Calling [person's name]" and the mobile icon. So I don't know what's up with that.

As for transferring files Bluetooth File Exchange is in your utilities folder. Like above you'll need to turn on BT on your phone and pair it with your machine.

Cool about the ring tones. Didn't know about adding iTunes songs. I think in iTunes you can set in/out points to songs and export it. If not then just use Quicktime (Pro I think).

EDIT:
I believe trim is the proper audio cropping verb.

I currently trim iTunes songs into smaller files as ring tones through a program that actually came on my mac, called Sound Studio. It may not be on all macs, but is available online as a free demo. The first step is to convert the song you want in iTunes to AIFF. Once that is done, drag it onto your desktop and open it in Sound Studio. When it opens up, you can play the song and see the corresponding wavelengths flash before your eyes
when you get up to the part of the song you want to cut out, you select all of it, then delete, and you know, isolate the part of the song you want as a ringtone. You can then fade out the end of the ringer through Filter~Fade Out if you wish. Then, save as the new file to the desktop as AIFF, then import it into iTunes, then convert the file back to MP3, but as custom and make it 96 Kbps most likely. Then, drag that file to the desktop, and transfer that file over bluetooth, or, as I do, put it onto a transflash card and transfer that way. If anyone has any questions just ask.

I recently got a V3c from Verizon. It has the 03 firmware, with BT OBEX disabled. But you can iSync the contacts list. With Mac OS 10.4.6, no special plugin is required. Just pair the phone with BT and go.

The iSync driver with 10.4.6 does not sync the calendar, however. This article explains how to enable the ability, but I don't recommend it. Brian says that transferring a large number of calendar entries can kill the phone.

WRT file transfer, based on everything I've read, it can only be done if you have the 02 firmware (or upgraded from 02 to 04.) If you have 03 (or upgraded from 03 to 04), then this capability is not present. Some have reported success flashing an 03 phone back to 02 (and then going to VZW to upgrade from that to 04), but this is not something I intend on attempting with my own phone.

To be clear: I used a usb cable connection. I have not tried syncing with BT and Brian's plug-in.
Two questions. Was it just a standard USB cable? I don't think it would matter but you never know. And also, will transferring files over work even with v.3 as long as you are using the USB and not Bluetooth?

I just picked up a Razr from Verizon yesterday so Bluetooth is out of the question...and I don't want to spend $3 a pop for their limited selection of songs for ringtones!

Apparently 10.4.6 brought some iSync and bluetooth improvements (so my friend tells me, better support for his Symbian phone he tells me). So I thought that it might have improved for my V3i.

Unfortunately it still doesn't work over bluetooth, it freezes the phone for about 5-10 minutes. When it wakes up the Mac tells me there are no available services on the phone to use. But I can still sync happily using iSync no problems when using the USB cable (that came with the phone. Any standard mini USB to USB cable I have used works, (and obviously charges the phone too).

This is an unlocked UK V3i, so no iTunes :( but no restrictions, that I know of!

I use the v3c w/ obex file transfer browser to send and recieve files. I send full size ringtones and mp3's also. But when I had my friends cingular v3 (no c) the mp3's would playback distorted and out of whack. any ideas?
