Sorry if this isn't the place to ask.

If there are two ipads and two iphones in the house sharing the same itunes account because we have only one iMac, how do the devices differentiate between who gets what app?

For example, If I buy an iPad app and my wife buys one?

Each device can be named differently, and iTunes can differentiate them. You can have them all link to one iTunes account so you all devices can shared your apps.

I have the same setup as you with some additional iPods thrown in there. :D

iTunes uses the serial numbers of the devices to differentiate them. The beauty is that you buy an app once and all devices in your family can share them. This is great when they are expensive apps.

We have two ipads and 3 iphones shaing same account on three diff computers (havnt tried it on one) its really nice for sharing ibooks and apps, really nice not having to purchase same app for diff gear.
