With the release of the upcoming Sandy Bridge architecture coming right around the corner, it might be a smart idea to wait if you don't need a new iMac this year.

Discuss your thoughts here! :D

Well, for me, it's more like: "I'm waiting for iLife '11."...
:p
I'm thinking it's a "free 8 GB iPod touch" vs iLife '11 scenario, assuming it is unveiled with the new iPods on September 7th.

I'll take the iPod, as I plan on selling it to finance the i7 upgrade :)

There will always be something to wait for.

Do yourself a favor and just get what you need to get. Holding off for the inevitability of your computer eventually being outdated isn't worth it.

I somehow doubt that they will understand that :D

Wasn't the LGA 1356 buried already or has it made a comeback?
LGA 1356 appears to be for a single QPI link, single socket replacement for LGA 1366 (Socket B).

I haven't heard anything more about it in a long time.

Totally agree. I have the cash waiting in my savings but don't see the point in buying a desktop machine til they update iLife and iWork (it has '09' in the name, so it cries out to be updated).

As for waiting for a Sandy Bridge iMac - are you kidding? There'll ALWAYS be news of the next big thing. You'll be waiting forever.

Sounds pretty useless to me. What would LGA 2011 be then? PCWatch is the only source that has mentioned it and that was ages ago. Reports I've read suggest LGA 1155 for mainstream (maximum of 4 cores) and LGA 2011 for high-end & server market (+4 cores)

I'm not just waiting for a sandy bridge iMac, I'm waiting for an iMac that has: blu ray, USB 3.0, light peak, HDMI, faster FireWire, expresscard slot and microSD (I think that what's it's called.)

First, I totally didn't know you were a member here Chilla. Second, I totally didn't know you were a Demi on here. Third, I'm a huge fan of your YT channel.

But anyways, I think I will upgrade my current iMac to a refurb 21.5" i3 when they become available, but I don't think I'll wait it out for Sandy Bridge.

You, sir are headed towards massive disappointment.
LOL: It was a joke.;)

But, seriously, I would love for a HDMI cable - imagine getting a nuke on COD, in HD without moving from your bedroom.

USB 3.0 would be nice as moving full HD footage on to a external hard drive via USB 2.0 (I know firewire is faster - but my work computer doesn't have any firewire ports).

Light peak is OK but I would have to buy an adapter to convert it to USB 2.0 (for work) and USB 3.0 is backward compatible already.

I'm officially waiting. This year's refresh was boring - Sandy Bridge will bring with it better power efficiency and USB 3.0. Those are two things worth waiting for.

Why wait for sandy bridge when a year later, ivy bridge on the new 22nm dies come out? Sandy would be a nice upgrade though...
